Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Marked as average as it was an over cast day with poor light, so the colours weren't evident for our visit. However we enjoyed the bird song, peace, & solitude of the place mid week with very few visitors.
For older or less energetic people go to the Leslie Road car park as it is only 800m to the polls from there.

Blue Spring is lovely, but it realy depends on the weather if you want to catch this attraction at its best. Cloudy weather makes the water look muddy rather than the deep blue you are hoping to see. Bright sunlight can also wash out the color. So, a sunny day that's not "too" sunny is the best - a bit of long shot. In addition, be aware that there are several parking lots, and all of them may be full as this attraction was crowded with families and children. Parking lots in NZ often have only 20 spaces or less, so be patient with looking for a place to put your car. Still... the spring is lovely and definitely worth a trip.

We had hoped to do the shorter walk version but this was closed ( with a council worker at the alternative entrance road turning people back. But the full walk was well worth it. Even if you can only walk a km of it, it is beautiful and well worth the time. It took us 3.25hrs return including a lengthy stop for a snack at the end point. Very easy track, mostly flat and well maintained. Occasional muddy patches. A few basic toilets enroute. The water is spectacular.

I've driven past here so many times and never stopped, I'm so glad we finally did. There are 2 entrances, one is a 15 min walk and the other 1.5 hours - so make sure you get the right one.

Beautiful river and springs, hopefully the sun ☀️ is shining when you visit to make the crystal clear water really glow.

We were going to do the full Te Waihou walkway but were running out of daylight so we ended up parking close (On Leslie Road) to the blue springs for a shorter walk. The blueness of the water is quite amazing. It was noticeable when we first crossed the bridge to get to the viewing platform area. You can sometimes see fish in the clear blue waters amongst the green weeds dancing with the flow. There is an alcove with darker blue water on the other side of the viewing area, which is more visible from the upper viewing area.
It is a nice place to just sit and watch the flowing waters, or to walk along the river to enjoy the sights and sounds.

Absolutley gorgeous. Although the short walk was closed because of track damage, the longer walk was still worth doing to see this gorgeous place. Photos cannot do it justice. The walk along the steams and farmland a beautiful on their own but the sapphire blue of the waters near the spring are to be seen to be believed. This is a much busier walk than I imagined and the car park was overflowing. No swimming at the spring but there is an area near the car park where it is allowed and would probably be appreciated at certain times of the year after a long walk.

Well worth a visit. Fantastic spot. Free entry and a must do. Beautifully set up and the stream is amazing. We parked on Leslie road and it’s an easy 10-15 minute walk to the bridge and beyond. Next time I would definitely spend longer and take in the walk from Whites road.

Firstly, if you are contemplating driving to this place, it is a long drive from Auckland - close to the time it would take to drive to Taupo. Arriving on Leslie Road, there are a number of parks by the side of the road. However, on a busy day, these fill up.

A short track (around 800m) leads to a bridge that gives you a very good view of the river. The water is unusually clear, so clear that you could see all the way to the bottom. Swimming is not allowed (due to ecological reasons). As an added bonus, there is a nice plantation of coastal redwoods (Sequoia) on the southern bank. The track then continues more or less along the course of the Waihou river.

Is it worth there purely for the springs - probably not. But if you are in the area, I would highly recommend it.

This is the most beautiful place. You walk in till you get to the river then follow it around. Amazing views of clear aqua water in river and backdrop of NZ native bush. It’s free to walk in here. Go early to avoid the people as it’s stunning when it’s quiet. No swimming or damaging the environment.

Just got back from church when I received a call that there’s a slot for me to join the campus hike at Blue Spring for free. I just grabbed my bag, water bottle, and some granola bars, and hurried to the school van parked just outside my dorm.😅
Twas such a lovely surprise.
I’m just in awe of how beautiful this country is.🥰

🥾: 2 to 3hrs 10km
Blue Spring supplies around 70 per cent of NZ’s bottled water.
