Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I always enjoy popping in when we are travelling through Tirau the building itself is an icon. It's a good please to shop too with a great selection of merino garments and I like to support NZ companies. I have bought presents here too and a variety of prices means I always find something.

Didn't stop to visit but did make a short stop to get a better look at these creative structures. Certainly breaks the monotony of a long drive!

These corrugated iron buildings are awesome. I couldn't believe that the sheep were tagged! We bought a hat from the merino shop and enjoyed a light lunch. We wouldn't have stopped at Tirau were it not for these very unique and quaint buildings. They symbolise what one expects to see in NZ - ewes, rams and the sheepdog herding. I immediately thought of Footrot Flats when I saw the dog, another great NZ character.

These places are great, if just for a photo opportunity!
The sheep building is great for gifts and the dog building is a Tourist information place.
We came here on a rainy day and it gave us the opportunity to purchase a few New Zealand souvenirs!

You cant miss these buildings if you're passing by a town called Tirau along State Highway 1. Its a really small town where all the eateries closes by 4 pm. The building that is made to look like a dog is also known as the Big Dog Information Centre. We stayed here overnight to get to the Hobbiton Movie Set in the morning, as it was roughly around 20 km to the Hobbiton.

A lovely arty place with a very clever artist who has made quirky signs out if corrugated tin. A very clever artist who has made a mark in a small town. What a unique idea to bring interest to an everyday rural town. We enjoyed looking at the art as we travelled thru.

When driving North to Auckland, Tirau is a 20 minute stop along the way, at most. Take a few pics of the kitchy corrugated metal buildings in different shapes ( if you must) and grab a cold drink from the Merchant of Tirau to keep you going on your continuing drive to somewhere else.

Most annoying, the iSite actually charges $3.00 for 15 minutes of wi-fi time -- galling in this day and age of FREE wifi as a local amenity or offer of regional hospitality.

Always fun to see these huge buildings made out of corrugated iron.
For us they’re a perfect stopping point on a trip. Somewhere to stop and stretch your legs as there are heaps of lovey cafes and homeware shops in Tirau high street.

We passed through Tirau on our way to Matamata and I just had to stop and wander around to look at all the lovely signs and artwork made out of corrugated steel, what a great way to enhance the main street. Colourful and quirky, and so unique. Definitely worth having a look.
