The site itself is worth a look at, but don't bother with the combination Museum ticket, as there is very little that is translated into English and what is, is quite trivial, and offers no historical or cultural perspective. The combination ticket includes a 20...More

This place was beautiful and full of history. Small museums, shops and restaurant made this place very nice.

Imagine a six-pointed fortress in the middle of the 17th century Groningen swamps, guarding and cutting off the only access to the city. Impossible to besiege, let alone capture. This very important place in the religious wars is restored as it was in 1742, and...More

What a hidden gem. A lovely quite secluded spot with narrow streets and small cafes - calm relaxed and lots of spaces to explore and discover - lots of information that explains what each building was used for

Bourtange is located in a remote part of the province of Groningen. It's a completely restored fort with in its center a small cosy village with cobblestoned streets, so not wheelchair, stroller or walker friendly. The fort and all the buildings inside have been restored...More
