Stopped on our way to Southend... Never seen it. Loved it. Great little location. With caff/restaurant on site for refreshments. Not a lot of parking so might have to park off site. Be great to bring picnic. Lovely views.

Spent nearly two hours here. Boys duly impressed with the 800 year old walls, and they enjoyed scrambling around the fallen bits of the wall that had eroded along the southern edge. Stunning site and easy to imagine the castle in its heyday.

Step back in time - watch for enemy ships trying to slip past your defences up to the estuary to launch an attack on London!

I really liked the place. I like the quiet, historic atmosphere. Built after 1215. Free entry. Dogs are welcome. Open any reasonable time during daylight hours. No car park on site. Access from the road via a kissing gate. Very nice view. I recommend.

Been here so many times over the years. There’s not much of the actual building left but the views are amazing of the estuary and into Kent. Bring a picnic and walk slightly off the well beaten track and you feel as if you have...More

Popped in for a quick visit to capture a few images of the castle ruins. The location provided some great views of the Thames estuary, and the remaining castle ruins were quite interesting, but there was little in the way of information about the castle...More

Yes it's all good for a pushchair. May be a little bumpy in places but generally ok.
