An interesting place for a stroll around the historic site and small village. Whilst it’s only a short drive or walkable from Tórshavn it feels totally different, as it is so small and peaceful.

The Cathedral is standing near the sea even though there is no roof. When I visited there was a notice saying that you enter at your own risk. As when I visited there was not a lot of wind I entered the structure. There are...More

One of the best places I saw in the Faroe, helped by the perfect weather that accompanied the whole visit. The place is beautiful, empty (only 3-4 other people were present in the area), with a dramatic position on the sea, sporting a large, mysterious...More

Kirkjubøur is the southernmost village on Streymoy, Faroe Islands. We walked from Thorshavn over to Kirkjubour, easy walk about 2 hours. This is the site of the country's most important historical site with the ruins of the Magnus Cathedral from around 1300, the Saint Olav's...More

Close to Torshavn there is the old village Kirkjubour, only a few houses but with a 1000-year history. The old ruins of the Cathedral is impressing, how did they do it in the “old days”. It feels like this place are in the middle of...More

The ruin of the old cathedral is worth visiting. Not because there is a lot to see in the ruin itself but because it is located in a beautiful area. It takes 15 minutes to drive from Torshavn. A nice place to see the sunset....More

Lovely little church on the waterfront and the site of the under reconstruction Saint Magnus Cathedral dating back to the middle ages. There is also an old village recreation and it's fun to wander around to view the old styles of architecture. Washrooms on site....More
