It took 5 hours to walk from Ciboleger bus stop to Inner Baduy- It's a home for Baduy tribe that refused electricity and technology. The culture is so strong that they rejected government's offer on funding or development project, such as building proper toilets for them. The reason is so simple: Letting the government doing once means giving them permission to do other projects that may destroy the natural ecosystem.
The people still bathe and do their business in the river. But they have no skin problems.

Our trip to the Baduy community was an eye-opening and enriching experience! We hiked through stunning landscapes to reach the remote villages, where we were warmly welcomed by the Baduy people. Their traditional way of life, untouched by modernity, was both fascinating and humbling. Our guide provided deep insights into their culture and customs, making the visit incredibly informative. The peaceful environment and simple lifestyle offered a refreshing break from the modern world. This trip is a must for those seeking a genuine cultural immersion and a deeper understanding of Indonesia's diverse heritage.

i contacted a driver/guide with ok english to take me from bogor to the outer baduy & from there to jakarta. it took us 7 hours to reach the baduy area because of bad, very bumpy roads. we stopped on the way in a market & the guide bought us food to be cooked at night & the following morning by the host. a guide from the baduy area was contracted by my guide & he walked with us. also he had the connection to the place where we stayed at night. he had no english & my guide translated. we walked from the village (not baduy) where we left the car up the hills to the village where we stayed at night. the path was very slippery from the rain that started before we arrived & stopped as we started the walk. have a good shoes with a good grip. our guide as well as the baduy people walked with their flip flops or bare foot. the walk was not longer than an hour in a beautiful scenery of forests, along a gushing river and passing baduy villagers with their everyday activity. this was amazing for me. at the house where we stayed, the host cooked the food & we ate as all baduys do, on the mat floor. there is no electricity, no running water & no toilets in the bamboo-wooden houses of the baduy. ask to go to the "public" toilet of the village. it's an experience. i was given a sort of a mattress & a pillow. slept with my cloths on. it was not cold at night. look early morning at the activities along the river. walk on the bamboo bridge over the river. on the way back, more walking over the hills, more villages & more of the beautiful scenery. ask a lot of question to get an understanding into the life of people who live differently.

As always, visiting Baduy village is like stepping into the past, where nature and people lives in harmony. The valleys, the traditional ways, the greeneries, the purity of people are so rare and precious. Greetings with old friends and the villages set up in a dreamy wooden/leaves houses. A refreshing journey indeed.

Go straight ahead and follow the path is Inner Baduy people philosophy. They believe if you just go straight ahead, you will be okay and keep away from any bad spirit.
This trip was really such an amazing trip for me.
I visited Inner Baduy Village with my girl friends, it's right, it's just us, strong women. We wanna proof that we can do this hard trip without men, even though we still need a guide and Porter whom guys.
We hiked with a guide and Porter, it was Kang Saprin and Bapak Nani (people called him Ayah Nani - Nani's dad, ). We hiked for 4 hours with lots of breaks, people usually need 3 hours to Baduy Dalam from Baduy Luar. We have to take lots of breaks since we were almost never do exercises before.
Bapak Nani is indigenous Inner Baduy, we stayed in his house for 1 night.
I was speechless by how Baduy Dalam people's life. How they become one with the nature, they never used any kind of chemical such as soap or toothpaste. Even they washed the dishes with leaves. They are really remarkable.
Once you entered Inner Baduy Village, phone and camera not allowed. So I don't have any pictures in Inner Baduy, the only picture is the last bridge before Inner Baduy Village.
PS. Only Asian can come to Inner Baduy Village, if you are European, Americans or Africans (read Caucasian or Negros) you can't come to Inner Baduy Village. They have their own believes and reasons, so just respect it. If you wanna go to Baduy Village, be free to contact me

I joined a TRIF Adventure open trip with 30 Indonesian people to explore the community, which decides to not using and receiving any modern technology. The trip started from Tanah Abang train station Jakarta to rangkas bitung station. Then there was a hired car brought us to the nearest spot from Baduy luar then we had a great walk for 5 hours.

My program around Java is getting more and more interesting, because the guide from the tripadvisor application brings my curiosity about Java and Baduy to one of the local tour operators called Java Private Tour. Baduy exceeded my expectations. I really merged with them, I slept overnight at local people's houses, ate with them, visited their plantations, saw Baduy nature, the nature that they made their life support. But there are things that I really regret about the trips and activities in Baduy that I did, as a foreigner I am not allowed to visit Baduy Dalam (inner baduy), because it has become very strict customary regulations, and I really respect it, however I am very interested in getting to know baduy deeper in my next trip.

We were staying overnight at Serang before going to the Baduy area, around 2hours drive away. We picked up our guide, an outer Baduy person, at Ciboleger, the popular last stop before start trekking. We chose a shorter route from Cijahe for around 4km to reach Cibeo, an inner Baduy village. There are longer treks for 12-14km. There are three inner Baduy villages. Visitors normally stay overnight at Cibeo. The remaining 62 villages are outer Baduy villages.
It took us around 2 hours to walk as we walked slowly to enjoy the view. It is rather an easy trek. Unfortunately we are not allowed to take pictures of the inner Baduy area. There are bridges to cross from the outer to inner Baduy areas as signs where we have to stop taking pictures.
Inner Baduy people wear white and black clothes, no footwear, they have to walk (no vehicle) in order to reach one place to another. They learn to walk in the wood since they are 3 years old. Outer Baduy people have more freedom. But they respect their tradition, following Sunda Wiwitan, which is basically in harmony in nature. They are monogamous, no quarrel, no divorce. They eat and drink almost everything except lamb and pork, but they don't grow or raise all. They use no chemical, like soap, toothpaste, fertiliser. No bathroom, they use the water from the nearby river. Baduy people have fair and clean skin, slim, and tall, considered good looking to our standard.
We stayed overnight in our guide's parents in Cibeo. You could feel the tranquility of the place, calmness, feeling of total safety. Unfortunately, foreigners are not allowed to get into the inner Baduy area.
We also visited the iconic root bridge. There are sections of the trek which are difficult and very slippery when wet. This is a must see bridge.

If you are seeking for cultural enrichment and peaceful solitude, this is the perfect place for you. It is better to have a local guide, especially if you are a girl travelling solo. It's not that it's not safe, but just for precaution. Moreover, the local guide can tell you the history and savoir-faire of the trip.
Nonetheless, gorgeously breathtaking-- figuratively and literally.

Where do you find guides for the trek to Baduy Luar? Since I am white, I won't be able to visit Baduy Salam, unfortunately. But I would like to trek to Baduy Luar.

You can contact Mr. Edu, he is the owner of a Java Private Tour and is quite well known among the Inner Baduy and Outer Baduy communities, several times I and my colleagues from various countries who want to do research have been helped by Mr. Edu and the Java Private Tour team, the most important thing is that you maintain the rules and regulations of the customs there, my best advice is to contact Mr.Edu from Java Private Tour, you can search for it on google very easily

Hi,
My friends who are Chinese and American and I are planning to visit Baduy. We are now in Bogor, West Java for a short trip thus we only have 1 day off to do the visit. Please advice for a day trip to visit Baduy and also a recommended travel agent to arrange the visit. We prefer a private tour.

Sorry for my late reply, I hope it can help other travelers, my advice is to just contact Mr. Edu from Java Private Tour he can arrange everything well regarding activities in Baduy, and by coincidence I just came back from inner Baduy and outer Baduy with Java Private Tour for the umpteenth time, and I highly recommend it to all of you.
