This is one of the Strongest Forts in India at the ground level. One can imagine the water that would have been in the moat around this Fort. Worth visiting.. though partial view is applicable to public as this being utilised by our defence services. Defence personnels are very very supportive. this fort has a moat around it . and was designed to house troops of bahamani sultanet to guard the famous deccan trade route . a small selfcontained fort was used as a prison fr pt jawahar lal nehru and he wrote discovery of india here in the cell

This fort is under military control and is in good condition. This place is closed for public. Army allows public to visit this fort on 26th January & 15th August every year. The Ahmednagar Fort is a historical fort which is now with the Army. Apart from old Mughul architecture, the fort also houses a jail. The cells are called as the Leaders Block and was used by the British during pre-independence to imprison political detainees. The fort is used by Indian Army for Armoured Corps. It is surrounded by a ditch with water in season, to protect it from enemies. This Historic site is still an active Military Camp, so access is limited, but you can visit where Nehru was imprisoned, and view the rampart walls from the outside. I do wish they would do more to restore and maintain this great part of India's history.
