Nice old church to have a look inside. No photos allowed inside but the exterior is definitely worth taking a photo or two. It’s in a square with a couple of bars where we had a drink while locals were playing backgammon.
Well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

This church was built in the 9th Century and is stunning, having been beautifully restored with wonderful paintings and frescos.
However, my experience was marred by the predatory behaviour of the man who unlocked the church and I presume was the guide or curate. As I am pursuing a complaint against him, I will not describe events in detail, suffice to say that he approached me - initially it appeared to be in his role as a guide - to explain and highlight various paintings. However, this was clearly an excuse as he touched my breast on two separate occasions. The first time I was unsure if it was a mistake, although he did not apologise, however the second time he told me I was beautiful, ran his hand down my back and touched my breast again. I am an assertive professional in my 50s, however, I was very shaken, felt completely disempowered and left the church.
It would be a shame to miss visiting this church from a historical viewpoint (Ironically the church is dedicated to Saint Paraskevi who was a strong and devout lady and is also the patron Saint of the town) but I cannot recommend it while the church continues to employ this abusive man.

Serious safety incident

First, the good. The church is stunning and the frescoes and icons are beautiful - old and vivid. You can't take pictures so if you go without seeing any the images will astound you. It's one of the most stunning churches and very accessible from Paphos. I first visited it in 2012 and was keen for my friend and travelling companion to see it.

Now, the serious problem with the visit. I will tell the whole story so that you can make up your mind whether you wish to visit or not. We are two women. I'm in my thirties and reasonably confident and this was an unpleasant experience for me, so I am especially keen to warn other women that this may not be a suitable visit until this situation is dealt with. When we compared notes, my older companion also found the entire interaction extremely unpleasant and positively abusive.

We arrived and the older man looking after the church was very friendly and welcoming. He was perhaps a bit overfamiliar, with kisses on the cheek and "Welcome to Cyprus!" but we are not Cypriot and it can be hard to know what is "normal" locally. One of the things we love about Cyprus is the warmth of the people so we accepted this. He showed us some of the highlights with background information and we purchased the book.

We were each a bit uncomfortable with how close he was standing, and "accidentally" brushing against us. I'd already decided to enjoy the church as well as I could and we would retreat. He showed us one of the oldest icons and then motioned me over to the other side of the iconostasis to look at another icon. I said it was beautiful and he said, "And you are a beautiful woman!" and went to hug and kiss me again. He was moving in trying to kiss me and I stopped him.
He said, "Is there a problem? Do you have a boyfriend?"
I said, "I am saying NO."
His response? "Okay, I will just touch you then," and moved to do just that.
I blocked him again and moved well away, repeating NO several times as he advanced again. I said, "Do not touch me. Leave us alone."
He stayed away for a few minutes. When I rejoined her my friend said, "Is it me or is he seriously creepy?" so I reassured her that it was not her, while saving the story until we left so as not to attract his attention further.

When we were leaving he came back and tried to hug and kiss us again. My friend held him coldly and firmly at arms' length and he was clearly aware that this was a signal to back off. He followed us outside and we made it quite clear we did not want him to. He was then hovering outside watching us in a predatory manner as we left the square, in a hurry, choosing a route that meant we would not have to cross his path. Even outside he made us very uncomfortable.

I want to warn others about our experience visiting. I will be taking this further to make a formal complaint and I hope that before too long others' experience of this wonderful church will be only a pleasant one.

My wife and I went to the church as we had heard how beautiful it was, when we got there it was shut. We were in Cyprus for a wedding as well as a holiday. The next day we went to the wedding by coach as the venue was secret and low and behold we pulled up out side the church. What a lovely setting for a wedding and the reception was just across the road. Wonderful church, wonderful wedding, wonderful venue across the road

Nice old Byzantine church, the church is located in the town square. It’s a small church whit relax fine paintings inside. Your not allowed to take photos inside. In the small chapel beside you can light candles for your loved one.

Open for all to enter at no charge but opportunity to leave a donation. Many icon panels to see. A place of quiet prayer and reflection also a tourist spot. Located right in the centre square of Yeroskipou.

An excellently preserved church from the 11 century still in use everyday the icons are amazing the grounds are proudly cleaned daily and real candles still in use unlike those horrible electric ones I saw in Milan and Portugal last year . Well worth a visit if you have an interest in historical monuments.
