- Gillian SJohannesburg, South Africa44 contributionsTake time to visit Old TownAfter several visits to Phuket, primarily Patong Beach, I finally got to explore Old Town Phuket. And would again. It has a very different flair to hectic Patong - and we enjoyed the colours and flavours of this area. Including the 3D museum which was an hour or 2 of different fun.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 2 November 2023
- HitmanVChelmsford, United Kingdom47 contributionsColourful and vibrant placeExcellent and well worth the visit especially on a market day. The place was heaving with stalls and tourists. Very lively and vibrant atmosphere. But be careful of pickpockets. The buildings are quaint and colourfully decorated. Some excellent restaurants and barsVisited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 November 2023
- SggolfSingapore, Singapore102 contributionsOnce a visit to this Old town is good enoughAs the town name implies, many old historical buildings around. Good to walk around to kill time with many shops selling souvenirs, clothes, food etc. Tourist place and hence most items are expensive though. Traffic are a little heavy with motorcycles wheezing past so be careful. Once a visit is good enough for me though.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 11 December 2023
- Birt1964Melbourne, Australia3,405 contributionsFantastic Sunday Night MarketThere are 2 main night markets in Phuket and the Old Town market was recommended by our hotel. We arrived at 5pm and it was already in full swing. It is bustling but has a great vibe and the smells of the food is divine. We wandered in and out of shops and stalls and surprisingly we were not hassled by the vendors. The music was also great with lots of street performers including some very talented children & even a childrens choir. Getting home was also easy as there is an abundance of taxis but suggest you agree on the price before getting in the vehicle.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 17 December 2023
- travel-nana28 contributionsOld historical buildingsHustling n bustling with tourists all over the place! Although they say it’s a night market but it’s forever crowded whether day or night! Nice to see are the old buildings although stores are new. Good to get a souvenir or two, try the local food and definitely enjoy a good massage at affordable prices.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 23 December 2023
- Jim S10 contributionsPhuket 1st TimePhuket was wonderful. Wish we’d spent more time in Phuket old town. Toured Phi’s snorkeling and understand speed boats are quick but pounding. Rented a car, no problem, hit the big buddy fantastic.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 December 2023
- Zoe_JLWindsor, United Kingdom354 contributionsEnjoyable but busy!We came here for the day as we were staying in the north of the island. Lovely architecture and beautiful locations. The only thing we didn’t enjoy is the amount of people posing for the gram and taking videos/photos all the time. This causes people jams and overcrowding in certain areas. It’s very busy and some beautiful vendors/food stalls. It’s just ruined by those only posing for pictures. Other than that it is certainly worth a visit to look around.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 4 February 2024

- Karoli24714 contributionsVery nice little oldtownPhuket City is located in the south of Phuket. There is a big night market in the main road Thalang road of the old town on Sunday evenings(16-22hrs). This is the best day to combine the very nice oldtown with the pittoresk old colored buildings and the existing marked in the evening. Due to the traffic you have to go early from your origin stay. The streetfood on the night marked is outstanding. Take 2hrs for the oldtown and enjoy the rest of your stay on the marked.Visited February 2024Travelled soloWritten 26 February 2024
- Jocelyn W4 contributionsFun to walk around for a couple hoursThis is a cute town to walk around for 1-2 hours. Plenty of cafes and food spots, and lots of boutique clothing stores that sell pretty similar clothing. Not much else to do. After walking around the streets here, I walked ~15 minutes to a nearby food court (Cham Cha Local Market) which is a very local food court (no other tourists when I went) with amazing spring rolls and pork bone soup.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 1 March 2024

We had a walkaround as a pre-cursor to a cruise. he centre is totally manic but a great place for a stroll. Our guide pointed out buildings of interest, there are some great shops & cafes, a far cry from the beach resorts around the coast.
If here on a resort holiday take time out to enjoy some real local history & culture.

I had no frame of reference or knowledge of this place until I arrived. Multi-colored Sino-Portugese historic buildings really give this a place a truly unique look. Not surprised to see many Chinese and other Instagrammers getting selfie’s everywhere, some with their own pro photographers trailing behind. Some interesting shopping, good food and with quite a large Chi-Thai population quite the place to be during Chinese new year.

Old phuket Town has preserved some of the architectural styling of previous ages. Although not as bustling as it may once have been, it maintains some of this atmosphere, particularly in the evening.
Although a good half of venues are closed or shuttered, plenty remain open.
Of note in the photo I've uploaded is this building which is locked up and does not appear to have been modified in who knows how long! So whilst the buildings around have been maintained, this one has fallen to dilapidation. Id love to know the story there!

Phuket Old Town is littered with almost endless streets of shops selling souvenirs of all kinds and also quaint and colourful shop houses. Due to our hectic travel schedule, we only spent around 1.5 hours carefully scrutinising at the souvenirs and were immensely delighted to come across a stall which sell cute food magnets at an affordable price. We bought the food which we enjoyed the most at Phuket, mainly Pineapple Fried Rice, Mango Sticky Rice and Banana Roti. Next, we purchased some beautiful Thai Scarf at THB 100 each.
Should we have more time, we would have explored and shopped more, as there could be more colourful shophouses to photograph or more intricately-designed souvenirs to acquire! Nevertheless, this has been a rewarding journey and we quickly hailed a taxi around the corner of the street before sunset and departed this place with gratification.

An Old Town in almost south east of Phuket Island with colorful houses and very nice and convenient atmosphere, far from the noisiness of touristic parts of Phuket Island. Here most people are local Thai people with some simple and quiet (but alive!) Cafes & Bars and lovely Hostels, it's a very nice place for getting relaxed and enjoy walking through this Antic Bright town. When we were passing the streets of Old Town, we found a celebration in a school by chance, we had some good time there, Thai people behaved us very friendly and served us with eatables and drinks. We felt completely at home.

Old Town is pretty authentic and a nice change of scene after beaches, jungle and islands. Nice walk among the historic buildings with lots of cafes, gift shops and small restaurants.
Preferable to visit in the evening when the sun is down and the heat is off. Last Sunday there was a gastronimic bazar in Krabi street with music and karaoke and a variety of street food cooked right before your eyes (though not sure if it is every Sunday or some special event)

We stayed in Old Phuket and we loved walking around admiring lots of nicely restored buildings, - of course not all buildings are restored, but quite a few are. There are also quite a few good restaurants in this area. There are lots of shops, but I was not too impressed by the quality of the art work in the shops. But we enjoyed to look at the art work at quite a few of the walls.

The Old Phuket Town is a attraction you don’t miss! Walking the streets in the Old town is very interesting experience. It is a walk through the history of Phuket. You can enjoy the houses in the old Portugal and Chinese architecture which is so emblematic for Phuket town. The most of the old houses are now hotels, shops, cafe and restaurants but the atmosphere in the streets is very authentic and charming. Take a break of the beaches and visit for half day the Old town of Phuket and you don’t be disappointed!

Friday 14th February and a visit to Old Phuket was the last stop of our Sun Leisure World's Explore Phuket Tour
It was an opportunity to see the different architectural styles, Chinese and Portuguese, that are about the Town. The streets were lined with colourful buildings, some in better shape than others.
Two of the most memorable buildings were Museum Phuket and Sang Tham Shrine (both reviewed separately).
There are an abundance of different shops and arcades in which to browse and shop. It was interesting to see the tourist shops side by side with the normal day living shops, like fabric and hardware stores.
There was a lot of street art to be admired. There was a plethora of bars, restaurants and cafes.
We found our time here really interesting and we enjoyed wandering about exploring.

Full of old buildings with hipsters places to have a drink. A lot of shops that you can buy souvenirs or local made clothes but the prices are kinda fixed. They only give a little bit of discount if you asked for best price. The streets are relatively quiet at night since shops are closed in the evening.

Добрый вечер! Ночной рынок работает только в вск, или в субботу тоже? И как добраться с Панвы?

It's free to walk the streets and admire the street art and the architecture. There may be museums in the area that may have an entry fee, but these can be avoided if you are not interested. Lots of small shops and restaurants around.

have anyone gone on to a jungle slide tour? where to book ? Is there only one provider? or different spots has different deals?
Shall I book direct to the activity holder or through agency?
is sliding among trees worth a try ?

Hi there!
Definitely worth a try. The Company we did it with was called Flying Hanuman. It does require some physical stamina but not that much. They also do a video for you which is slightly expensive but definitely worth it for the memory. Try not to go when the sun is the hottest. Perhaps the early or mid morning tour is best. Also depending on you physical state you can decide whether you would like to do a shorter or longer course. I opted for the shorter course as a first timer. Will definitely do it again.

Hi, can you remember the name of the interesting shop - or the street it is on? Thanks!
Written 7 February 2018
it is 2 blocks from main street mid block. it was the only store with two huge rooms filled with handbags, table clothes, runners, scarves etc. sorry I do not know the name, but if u are on the main street at most central intersection. on the right corner there is a wedding supply store across the main street from wedding stores is a restaurant bar with indoor outdoor seating. turn left at that corner restaurant. go two blocks, left, go about a block store is in your left. exit store to next main street left turn 2 blocks brings u back to original main drag.
