We have visited many, many castles in Europe and this rates in the top 5. This is really a very impressive site. It is a combination of a ruin and a restored castle. Then you have to consider the massive structure itself and the many,...More

Very impressive building that has been built by an eccentric landlord for a war that never happened. The castle can be visited and it remains in a very good shape. The walk up to the top is not too difficult but one has to be...More

There are car parks as you approach the village but if you are going directly to the chateau ignore those and proceed up the road to the left of the village and park at the top adjacent to the Chateau. Alternatively you can park at...More

Off the beaten track, Bonaguile is a stunning and well organised site. Park at the bottom of the hill and walk up (there is parking at the top but that’s a bit lazy). The castle itself is well laid out and informative. Information boards are...More

Chateau Bonaguil, Magnificent, impressive historic monument, well worth a visit, the last of the fortified castles. Built on a high rocky spur between two rivers and because of it's location the name of the castle comes from the French "bonne aiguille" (good needle). Lots to explore,...More

We enjoyed our trip round Chateau de Bonaguil, a great castle with plenty to see. The reason this isn’t 5 stars is because there is limited information on the castle itself (e.g. no chateau specific shop or a guidebook). You get a leaflet on the...More

This is an impressive, imposing castle. There is a lot to explore with lots of steps. No problem for us but something to consider if you have mobility problems. The view from the top of the keep is spectacular and well worth the climb

This medieval fortress is certainly off the beaten path, north of the town of Fumel, but if you are in the area, it is absolutely worth the visit. The setting is beautiful. Be sure to check out the view of the fortress from the small...More

I saw a lady with a rather overweight Labrador there so they clearly allow dogs. However I wouldn’t recommend dragging a dog around there on a hot day
