Actually, my trip to Nglanggeran was not included on my plan. Because i didn't know if there was a place named Nglanggeran and i didn't even hear it before. But, my brother(cousin actually) asked me if I wanted to go there. I thought it didn't matter because maybe it would be great to be there so we decided to go there. We didn't directly go to Nglanggeran because at that time I really wanted to go to Ratu Boko Palace so my brother brought us to there. The weather was very hot at that time, but after visiting Ratu Boko the weather started to change. The weather became bad and finally it rained. We almost cancelled our visit to Nglanggeran but finally we didn't cancel it. The road to Nglanggeran was very extreme passing the hills and the famous spot "Irung Petruk" between Piyungan and Patuk. I was so glad because we were able to pass that road, but the road's still quite hilly and made our motorcycle climb and climb. The road is getting slope upward. At that time, the rain still happened. And finally after the exhausted trip we reached our destination, Nglanggeran. To reach the first "pos", we had to climb again because the first "pos" is located above the car and motorcycle park area. It was quite hard because the path was soil and it's wet. We need to watch every step that we made to make sure everything is fine. After that, the first spot here, Embung Nglanggeran could be seen. It's kind of a man-made lake and located on the top of mountain. It's very beautiful, although it's raining. Close from the Embung, there's available a gazeboo for resting area or "pos" before continuing to climb the peak of Nglanggeran. We couldn't be able to go to the peak because of the bad weather at that time. The thunder was horrible and the rain didn't stop until we arrived at home again. The panorama here is beautiful because we could see the greeny hills, trees, crystal blue water of Embung Nglanggeran, and Jogja from the distance. The air is fresh and there's no air pollution there. I reccomend you to visit Nglanggeran during the dry season for avoiding the bad weather. This place is a perfect summer getaway if you're tired of beaches and cities. Although it means we need to do the exhausting trip to reach it, but it's totally worthed. Sometimes, we need some effort to find the beauty and Nglanggeran is one of that kind. It's better if you go there by motorcycle because of the road condition. I hope and pray that may the road is getting well so the car or even bus could be able to reach one of the hidden beauty of Jogjakarta. Make sure that you bring your own food and drinj for supplying your needs because as long as I remember, there's no food or drinkstalls around. Don't forget to visit Nglanggeran if you have an enough time in Jogja. Find the beauty and enjoy it. God bless your trip :) :D

Nglanggeran Mount is not a big nor height mount, but it has a reason why you have to go there, unique.
Nglanggeran is a small mount, about 20 km from Wonosari, Gunung Kidul or 25 km from Yogyakarta. I recomend you to use your own vehicle or rent some in Yogyakarta or Wonosari. Car is okai since the road is well.
You are a adventurer? Nglanggeran Mount is waiting for you. Or you are a mountain climber? Nglanggeran won't give you a challenge, but will give you a unforgatable experience.
Nglanggeran mount is an ancient mount. You'll find many big stone there that will make you experience an ancient moment. The track field is easy, even if you never do climbing, you still can go there without any difficulites. If you're lucky, you'll find a monkey before you've reach the top. It take about an hour the reach the top. And from the top, you'll see some great view. An ancient rock, Embung Nglanggeran, and if you're lucky enough you'll get a sunrise moment too. If you want, you also can make a camp there.
Go there! And feel it yourself!

The tour operator suggested this lace onstead of Merapi and that's how we ladnded here. The trek is quite different from normal hill climbs. It is a combination of steps, straight walk, on the stones, wooden ladders and through narrow space between massive boulders. Do take alternative route to come down. Great experience.

It was a long road to reach the summit. Exhausting yet worthy. This site has an educational material about the ancient life. Try to hike up and you will find a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. You can see the beautiful scenery of Yogya.

The hike is quite short but the route is steep. Lots of rocks along the way and some of the route is pretty tight because it cuts through a rock. The view is breath taking and worth the effort.
However, prepare yourself as it is a hike. There are no shop whatsoever along the way if I remember.

This place offers some good hiking. You can see some beautiful rice fields on your way there and then enjoy a nice hike among lush vegetation. There are also some superb vistas on the top.

It took about an hour journey to arrive in the location from Yogyakarta city. Arrived about at 1pm. To get into the peak took about less than an hour (40 minutes) hiking with 3x rest each 5 minutes. The track is quite easy but should prepare your physic as well. I suggest the visitors to wear shoes (e.g: keds/sneakers), flip-flops sandal not recommended for me. The visitor shall pass the high steep stair, stone, and little part of narrow stone alley. After the rain, some tracks could be slippery when wet, so be careful. I got slip once on the way down from the top. Please take time during the hiking because you can enjoy the good view also. The officer do not provide the map, but don't worry because it has signages (in Indonesian).
I spent about an hour in the top. The view is great and I admire the stone and rocky mountain. Very beautiful.

The place has great view and great workout, dispite the hiking (which take 30 minutes to reach the top) you can rock climbing in some spots. The entrance ticket is pretty cheap, just 10k rupiah each. There are camp areas up there, so you can spend the night there if you want, but bring your own logistics if you need them.
There is no toilet on the track and the top, just near the locket (the track pretty much still natural)

I came here over the weekend with my host from Wake Up Homestay and it was a nice 90 minutes hike to the top. I like how well kept the place is with clear signs on where to go. It's popular with locals as well who are looking for a night camping out.
I even saw the team which is responsible to keep the place clean. They were carrying the garbage bags up and picking up the bits and pieces that irresponsible hikers left behind.
Definitely worth a visit if you would love to see the greener side of Yogyakarta.
