We perform checks on reviews.
Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's a shame that people don't know about this beautiful lake and don't visit it. I guess so because all the reviews here are in Italian. So, the lake is situated in the middle of Gran sasso sasso national park, and you can enjoy the views of the mountains as well as you can take a bath in the lake, if the water is not much cold.

It's really beautiful! Great place to spend a day out with friends!
Near to L'Aquila, there is a beautiful old bridge.

Extremely disappointing experience!

Several local websites talk about Lago di Campotosto being the perfect place for hiking and water sports, so we ahead there from L’Aquila to spend one our days off. We wasted the entire day looking for inexistent walking trails or even a centre to rent canoes or paddle boards, both experiences to no avail. There is only a dangerous car road that goes along the whole lake and it is not even possible to swim in the water!!!
It is true that there are many places to stop by and relax with a beautiful view in a deserted natural landscape, but the problem is that Lake Campotosto was advertised in many sites as a place to do water sports and walks which is absolutely untrue!!!
The only area with a little bit of life is near the only bridge that crosses the lake, where there are two bars and a beach area underneath (still no possibility to swim).
The whole area is also generally neglected, with rubbish left around and a lot of overgrown grass, even on the paths to reach the water next to which one can relaxes…

All in all there is not much to do here if one chooses to spend their annual leave near Parco del Gran Sasso to have an active holiday :-(((

From Calascio we drove through some beautiful and varied mountain scenery skirting around Campo Imperatore. In mid summer there was hardly anyone else to be seen until we started to descend towards Campotosto when suddenly the fields were full of sheep and some cattle.
Initially we didn’t see the lake, just the barrage which created it, but as we went further and the lake came into view it was a beautiful greeny blue colour and apparently quite unspoilt. We drove on round and across the bridge to get to Miscioni and then after lunch there carried on round towards the village of Campotosto.
There were relatively few tourists around, although some had set up their camper vans in lay-bys or had pitched their tents on the edge of the lake, but there seemed to be no holiday facilities on the lake and we saw nobody swimming or boating – although nothing says it’s not allowed - so that the place remains quiet and unspoilt and simply beautiful. It’s a complete contrast to the other man-made lake, Fiastra up in the Sibillini, which while still attractive has beaches and boat hire and lots of visitors.

A picture cannot do this place justice. Makes you feel like you're in a painting. You will not regret your visit to Campotosto ever, or even Abruzzo. Beauty at every turn. I plan to come back.

Simply go around the lake in a sunny day and you will get inside peace. If you are lucky with the weather, you will se the sky mirrored in the lake. I don't know how the landscape looks in the summer, but in the winter is simply beautiful. And of course, not only the lake but the surrounding mountains as well.

Very beautiful lake, but there are no structures or paths to visit it. It should certainly be enhanced with routes.

Landscape of undeniable beauty. Very pleasant mountain climate. SIN is the incivility of man who disfigures nature by abandoning waste and excrement of all kinds, destroying the beauty of the flora surrounding the lake. Numerous bonfires also under the clearing with incipient fire risks and a place of waste abandonment. No control by the local authorities and only a bitter and disconsolate local volunteer met collecting rubbish along some paths. A drop in the sea. An all-Italian massacre shamefully noticed by the few foreign tourists who abandon the area as soon as they notice such a massacre.

We spent a Sunday lying on the stones with an umbrella otherwise we would end up like lizards.... attended but not too much if I wanted to isolate the space nn is missing. There was a strong smell of fish, the water clean but muddy and stones on the shore, ventilated. It remained in its primordial state was not exploited nor made touristic there are two refreshments near the crossing bridge.
