Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Possibly one of the Catlins sights which could have been missed without any regrets. Information provided for this sight suggested the likelihood of encountering many Sea Lions and Fur Seals. What was found was one sole Sea Lion who quite clearly struck (what appeared to be an intentional) pose for a photograph or two, before settling down for another power nap. The supposed cemetery was not to be found either, but perhaps the underwhelming of this sight discouraged any real active searching. It very certainly was not posted anyway.

Nice stop to the point with some information by the bathrooms . Well maintained walk to the little lighthouse . Plenty viewpoints out to see and the nearby beach
Unfortunately the tide was well in so no sea lions and it's a windy spot but not busy and cute short stop

A photogenic lighthouse with the scrub and steps and the red door. It has toilet facilities and a decent sized car park. Depending on the weather, you can go for a nice walk along the beach. You may get lucky and spot seals. If you have the time on your trip through the Catlins, this is worth a stop and stretch the legs for a walk around.

It was nice to visit if you’re passing through ! I wouldn’t go out of my way to see it. It’s wheelchair friendly to get to the lighthouse. You get a nice view of the ocean and there is some history to read about. There are bathrooms to use there as well.

Short walk from the car park to the lighthouse. I was hoping for some Elephant Seals, but unfortunetly there were not any. Some information on the lighthouse and some great rock pools to explore

After a short drive down a gravel road you'll come to the lighthouse parking area, all for free of course, along with wheelchair accessible toilets. From the car park it is just a few minutes walk to the lighthouse. Interesting, yet sad, history about the area on sign boards about the place. Nice beach area to walk along with lots of bird life and sealions to see. Best seen on a nice day. Wheelchair access to lighthouse via pretty good fine gravel tracks.

This is a nice lighthouse, tucked away on the tip of Waipapa.
There's a long stretch of beach near the lighthouse. Unfortunately, we could not find any seals there during our visit.
There's also a cozy information hut in the car park.
Not far from the lighthouse is the S.S. Tararua shipwreck site.

The light house itself has character but is not atypical to many others of the period, but it comes with an appreciation of the stunning and at times both placid and turbulent southern water that provides a fantastic view and makes you think about how a lighthouse would have been needed by mariners in times past. Good beach. Big parking area. Local sea-lion population. Definitely worth a visit when in the area.

Lighthouse is ok to see nothing to special, the real hero is the views of the rugged coastline and the different animals you can see seals etc.
Nice beach to walk along, easy to get to with only short walk from the car park.
