    Review of the Bhimashankar Temple
Originally there were believed to be 64 jyotirlings while twelve of them are considered to be very auspicious and holy. Each of the twelve jyotirlinga sites take the name of the presiding deity, each considered a different manifestation of Shiva. At all these sites, the primary image is lingam, representing the beginningless and endless stambha pillar, symbolising the infinite nature of Shiva. Bhimashankar is an ancient shrine, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Shiva. Far away from the tumult of urban life, peeping through the white clouds, Bhimashankar can be termed a pilgrim's paradise. Apart from this the Bhima river flows adjacent to the temple and there is a bhima kund. It was a divine experience visiting Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga. Beautiful rock cut carving and idols of God on the wall of the temple describing various mythological stories. One needs to climb down almost 200 stairs to reach the temple but the stairs are very comfortable and easy. There are shops for Prasad, restaurants, flowers, ayurvedic medicine and other shops. One can also take Doli to temple with paying some charges to skip the steps. There is a big parking lot at the beginning of the stairs. There is a toilet and food stalls and other shops around the parking lot. It's paid parking (Rs. 50). Nandi ji is located outside the temple and also just outside the grabhghra where the main jyotirlinga is located. There is an idol of Lord Ganesha and Lord Kalbharav (shetrapal) on the entrance gate. A turtle as a symbol of Lord kuber is located in the main hall and there is a lord Shani temple just outside the main hall. You can do jal abhishek in the temple during the day at the specified time slots. You can sit in the main hall to do pooja and meditation. You should also visit the Bhima river origination place just 100m from the place where stairs start. The river originates from a small kund. There is a temple dedicated to lord bhrama, Vishnu, Shiva, chandrma, Surya adjacent to the origination pond. Apart from this there is an Anjani mata temple dedicated to lord Hanuman ji and few view points you can visit. This place is very sacred and divine. Just one request if you visit please maintain cleanliness, do not litter around and maintain peace.

    Bhimashankar - it's an experience
Bhimashankar visit I went from Mumbai early morning, started at 5.30. Try to take talegaon, chakan, manchar road, it's good road without much problem. We stayed at Blue Mormon. It's good resort with good food. 1. Try to visit Bhimashankar in early morning at 5 am or late evening say at 7 pm. 2. If you want to visit in afternoon, try for VIP passes. 3. Try to park near start of parking n walk to mandir. While coming back, take a short ride at 20 bucks back to ur car. You might get stuck if ur far too inside. 4. Mumbaikar, best to stay for a day as it's worth it

One of the 12 jyotirlinga, not much crowded except for the auspicious occasion. The best time to visit is the monsoon where nature is in its best shape and colour. You can enjoy the wild life century and nature around also

People and Sr. Citizen needs to take a note of this. Queue were long as this was a Saturday. Queue were taking longer than expected and were moving very slowly. Palkis were available for the Sr. Citizen. and approx Time on the weekend will be around 3-4 Hours so plan accordingly. Night stay is recommended for the People Coming from far.

    Bhimashankar Trip
We have visited Bhimashankar on 20th January 2024. We reached at around 8 PM in the evening. We seek the blessings of Bhagwan Bholenath, Offer Prayer and left around 9.30 Pm in the night. Our destination was Bhiwandi via Bike. It was chilled in the night and we have to take multiple stops for tea brakes. We also had a face to face encounter with a wild cat in the night.

Holy place but needs proper management
We left from Lonavala at 2:30 pm by car. Reached there around 5:30 pm. Had to park our car around 3 kms away from the temple as cops were not allowing us to go ahead due to the crowd. Then we hired bike to take us down to the temple. The line was very big. There were touts ready to take you for direct darshan by paying 300 Rs per person. If they are able to give you direct darshan that means there is a loophole somewhere. I did a survey and found the loophole and took direct darshan. Took a bike back to parking lot and left back for Lonavla by 6:30 PM

A must visit place especially during monsoons
Three hrs. from Pune, there are breathtaking scenic views on the way. One of the 12 jyotirlings, Bhimashankar has around 350 broad steps to climb down to the temple. All along the stairs you'll find lots of eatables and places to rest. People having knee problem can also climb up and down slowly but steadily, taking breaks. Avoid weekends and Mondays and also the month of Shravan, as there shall be a long queue on these occasions. Also it should be visited in the morning hours to avoid rush.

The place is located 150 kms from Pune. There are two routes from Pune one taking left from Rajgurunagar (Khed) along the Bhima River which is shorter, picturesque, less crowded but the speed is a constraint. Enroute we crossed the Chaskaman Dam. The wait time for the darshan was Three hours for normal Queue, probably due to holiday season. There is a special entry for senior citizens. The mandir was closed from 1500-1515h for performing Aarti. While returning we came via Manchar-Peth-Rajgurunagar, the route was longer but the roads were better but not scenic as compared to one along Bhima River.

The Bhima Shankar Jyotirlinga is one of the three Jyotirlinga in Maharashtra. Distance from Pune is approx. 90 km. We started early in the morning and reached the location in approx. 3-4 hrs. as we stopped between the route for a break and saw nature's beauty.

Due to the construction of the road, you will have to stop 3 KM before the Temple to park your vehicle. You will get a roadways bus that will drop you at the temple gate, and this service is on both sides of the journey.

Nowadays, Temple opens at 4:30 am and closes around 7:30 in the evening.

I visited during the weekend, but there was no rush, and darshan was very good and without any hustle. As soon as you entered the main temple area, the feeling was great, and you felt energetic.

People who have a problem walking might think about going to the Temple as it has steps downhill. But divine power always helps to overcome such situations.
It would be great advice not to drive in dark hours or night due to surrounding on the way to the Temple.

There are shops to have quick snacks and purchase items along with steps to the main Temple.

The temple was empty and in such times it emanates a serene feeling. the path to the temple are steps downhill with shops on both sides. there were no queues and darshan was easy, no jostling or people breathing down your neck. one could stay for darshan for as many minutes one chose to.
But much more than the easy and serene darshan, it was the walk to gupt bhimashankar that has etched in ones mind .
The sighting of shekaru, the giant squirrels in the thick canopy of the forest surrounding the temple.
The walk is downhill about 2 kms one way with large buttresses of trees where the giant squirrels live. A shy arboreal animal, their population has grown due to conservation efforts. The forest around the temple and the sacred grove concept or devrai is responsible for the the growth in numbers of the squirrels. BNHS and its researchers gave an impetus to the conservation movement.

One of the 12 jyotirlingas in India. It is situated at a good height close to the bhimashankar national forest. There are no fancy hotels nearby but you can find a lot of resorts that can be booked. There are 230 steps that need to be climbed down for the darshan. These steps are not very steep and quite wide, they can be navigated by seniors in the family as well. You will see a barricaded area while descending the steps which form the queue for general darshan (free...no tickets to be taken). If you wish to take the vip darshan ticket (Rs. 500 per person) please descend down the stairs without getting in any queue. The vip darshan ticket counter is at the end of the stairs quite close to the temple gate. This is a separate queue and will get you darshan quite fast, do not get caught in the scams of temple priests promising quick darshan. They will demand that you spend extra for special Pooja. The approach road to the temple is quite narrow and vehicles may be stopped much before the temple to avoid crowding...you may have to walk a fair bit to the temple in case of rush...

There was a rainy day and too much crowded in Maharashtrian Sawan month.
There was a very long que and we waited for long time.
After that we took VIP ticket for quick darshan which costs 500rs per adult.
After visited and took darshan, felt devine.

Really worth visit.

First, the darshan at Bhimashankar ( Ardhnareshwar) was really very peaceful. We were at the temple around 8 am, our Panditji gave us almost 15-20 min to perform Rudrabhishek. The Abhishekam is upto 12 pm only. In the morning 5 to 6 and 11-12 pm, you can see the Lord Shiva Shivling without the silver cladding or crown. So plan accordingly, and arrange with the Panditji in advance for any puja.
Coming back to the journey, I started from Navi Mumbai and took Malshej ghat route as during Aug- Sep, you find it very very beautiful. From Kharghar itself, I decided to avoid shil phata road, as it mostly crowded. we took a right from Kharghar and took MIDC Badlapur Taloja route which also avoids Dombivali. This route takes u towards Barve Dam and connects you to Malshej Ghat. We spent almost an hour before starting for temple. From Malshej, we started for Junnar Shivneri route, ( SH 111) this route connects you to Ghodegaon Manchar route, SH 112. While going towards the temple, you will get Neelam resorts, Natraj resorts, Blue moon resorts and MTDC resorts. Mtdc resorts is 9 km from the Temple and is a budget friendly resorts. Food is available there itself, there are no other food stalls outside. After Darshan, you can plan to visit around 5 tourist spot, Mumbai Point, Gupt Shiva, Plz check eco tourism You tube video on Bhimashankar eco tourism. While return, we took Manchar I/o Kalyan, and reached towards Rajgurunagar, Plz keep in mind immediately after crossing Rajgurunagar, you need to take right for Chakan, and then towards Mumbai Pune expressway.

Bhimshankar baba is located in sahayadri mountain range , a Serene location near Pune. Car parking is a little more than a km away . However there are young lads offering to take you close to the Mandir on their bikes , get Darshan and drop you back to car park for 2000 INR. Straight forward service and avoids the ghat road walking for those applicable . Swami Darshan was straight forward . We see Nandi, baba and sani bhagwan. The kalakand sold for a mere 100 INR for 250 gms is one of the best I have had . A must try .
The MtDC hotel about 9 Kms away from temple is basic basic but handy for a nearby stay . Overall no complaints.Har jar maha dev.

The road to Bhimashankar from Talegaon Till Plaza (on Mumbai-Pune Expressway) was under construction yesterday when we were going to Bhimashankar.

It is advisable to use the route via Chakan and Rajgurunagar to reach Bhimashankar.

The long drive passes through vast stretch of unpopulated areas with lots of steep rise and dips on the road. So Ensure that your car is well maintained and in good condition and balanced loaded . It is sort of a pilgrimage trip . Avoid Driving in dark hours (I.e. night time) . So Do not expect any fun and pleasure , rather the Driving itself may give some pleasure while you Cruise along the Bhima River
