    Lonar Crater Lake
After seeing the reviews about Lonar Crater lake, i decided that i must visit this place duringbmy visit to Aurangabad. And i was not disappointed. We left Aurangabad on 14/11/2023 at 8.10 AM and reached Lonar village at 9.50. Mr Amol Ph No 9975447088.....( I had read about him on net)....He took us on a guided tour of the place. His knowledge about the place is good. We learnt new things about our history. Realised that woman empowerment was much better during the ancient times Nature is just amazing.

India's Hidden Gem - Lonar Lake
We visited Lonar Crater on 24th December and took a trekking tour around the circumference of the lake. We also took our vehicle (Scorpio S6+) around the watch towers of the 6km outer periphery. Must say that it is one of India's hidden gems. The trek is through a A-Grade Forest and the lake is surreal with the temples on the banks. We had Chaitanya Kayande (Mobile No: 8888264934) as our guide and he shared his vast knowledge of History and Science for each spot visited. I would highly recommend his services for anyone visiting Lonar Lake. The only flip side is availability of good restaurants (Only veg options available) and amongst all options, Atharva is the only restaurant serving decent food.

An exceptional place - wonders of India
My visit to Lonar crater with Guide Amol Sardar (9975447088) was an outstanding experience. Amol's extensive knowledge and passion for the area made the trip unforgettable. He meticulously described every place we visited, providing detailed historical context that enriched the entire experience. One of the highlights was the magnetic field test, which was a fascinating demonstration of the unique features of area around crater. Amol also explained the high pH level in the lake, adding a scientific perspective to our exploration. His insights into the architecture of the temples around the lake were remarkable. His explanations were engaging and thorough, giving us a deeper appreciation for the cultural significance of each structure. Amol took us all the way to Kamalja Devi Temple, ensuring that we had a comprehensive tour of the area. Thanks to his expertise and dedication, the trip was truly memorable. I highly recommend hiring Amol for Lonar tours; his knowledge and enthusiasm make him an exceptional guide.

Awesome natural creation but sadly not developed for tourism
It’s a beautiful natural creation. A perfectly circular crater formed by an asteroid that now has a salt water lake. The outer rim is 2 km in diameter. While it’s worth the visit sadly the place is not developed for tourism. Even the view point and the temple are open during fixed hours. Except for MTDC there are no other places to stay. I think the government should develop the site and the place around. Possibly have a walking track around the crater.

    The Mysteries of Lonar
Lonar is a small village at 130 km from Aurangabad. It takes 2.5 hrs via Samruddhi Expressway and an hour more via non-toll road. Lonar, famous for its crater and rich historical background, is a hidden gem of the country not yet popularised by tourists. It doesn’t have many stay options. MTDC resorts are generally reliable. Vikrant Hotel is another option. There are 2 ways to see this crater 1. A drive around its circumference from the top. There are 3-4 watch towers to get the entire view of the crater. 2. Trek to the lake to watch it up and close- 5km (3hr) to and fro. On the way, visit a few temples and learn about our heritage. It is very advisable to engage a tour guide. A strong recommendation goes for Amol Sardar 99754 47088.

    The unforgettable Lonaar trip
Lonaar had been on our bucket list for a while, and we finally got to visit this amazing place. We hired Mr. Shailesh Sardar (+91 97635 45169) as our guide, and he made the trip unforgettable with his deep knowledge of the area's history. When we arrived on Saturday evening, Mr. Sardar took us to the Daitya Sudan Temple and the Sleeping Hanuman Temple, where we even got to attend the aarti. The next morning, we started an early trek to the lake. Mr. Sardar shared fascinating stories about each place and took great photos of us, making the trip even more special. Being the first ones on the trek, we saw lots of peacocks in the jungle and many migratory birds at the lake. It was an amazing experience, and we highly recommend Mr. Sardar to anyone visiting Lonaar. The area is full of beautiful ancient temples and is definitely worth a visit.

Lonar Crater lake is formed as result of accumulation of water in the crater or depression formed in the basaltic rock. The crater is of circular disc shaped and the water appears lush Green in colour. The water remains in the lake perennially and is replenished by seasonal rains. The crater is believed to have been formed as a result of meteor impact, few thousand years ago. The lake has a very high geological interest and lot of scientific research from various disciplines is centered around it.
Visually also the lake is very impressive.

Lonar Crater was one of the experience of its kind which shouldnt be missed. We got to Lonar slightly late but were fortunate as the security guard let us in for around 20 mins to have a look at the Crater.

Lonar Lake which is now its more famously known was created some 50k years back when a metorite fell on earth and over a period of years lake has being created. Crater is clearly visible from the top.

Also, there is a trekking being organised by local guides which we were unfortunately not able to take as we had to leave for our next destination early next morning.

For Stay, you can pre book early at MTDC resort, the staff there is very friendly and go all out to make your stay comfortable as well and also as a resort its pretty clean and well maintained.

Simply Awesome!! We went to Lonar Lake which is ~150km from Aurangabad for a day trip in our EV. Lonar lake is one of the three lakes on earth formed through meteoritic collision. One has to trek for ~1.5hrs to see the lake. Road from Aurangabd to Lonar is very good.

We had a great guide in Mr Amol Sardar mob no. +919975447088. He is very knowledgeable and explains every detail (from formation to its present form) about the lake. He went on to explain and showed us the presence of un-usually high magnetic field in few rocks around the lake. Also the temples around the lake has got history behind them with some being as old as 1000 years.

Whenever you go to Lonar, please take Mr. Amol as your guide.

Although it was not the peak season for visiting Lonar Lake and the rain and slippery roads prevented us from experiencing the forest trail, we look forward to a return visit during the November-January months. Despite these challenges, we enjoyed seeing sights such as Gomukh Dhar, Paphareshwar Mandir, and various other temples and structures that exemplify Hemadpanthi and Yadav Kalin designs. The visit to Motha Maruti/Sleeping Maruti/Magnetic Maruti was particularly memorable.
A highlight of our trip was reaching Watch Tower 1 and Watch Tower 3, where we were treated to an astonishing and beautiful panoramic view of Lonar Lake. The monsoon rains, lush greenery, and scenic vistas were a perfect backdrop for our visit.
One of the architectural masterpieces we saw was the Daitya Sudan Temple, located outside the Lonar Sarovar Sanctuary. This temple, built during the Chalukya dynasty (6th to 12th centuries), features three rooms, with the last dark room housing a four-foot idol of Lord Vishnu. The temple's exterior is intricately carved and designed in the shape of an asymmetric star.
A key part of our journey was our guide, Mr. Chaitanya Kayande (+91 8888264934), who has dedicated the past 11 years to guiding with genuine passion. I greatly appreciated his sincerity and his emphasis on the importance of mythology and our rich history.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I urge everyone to plan a tour to Lonar Lake and its temples, which have a history spanning around 1200-1400 years. Let’s boost tourism and raise awareness about this unique geological and historical site.

This is a hidden gem located at a 3 hrs drive from Aurangabad. Trekking through a forest reserve takes you to one of the world's largest crater lakes. This saline water lake is unique with its size and high magnetic soil. Lots of old temples in the forest around. Requires a bit of walking and some part has steep stairs so best done in early morning hours.

It is a beautiful lake! Green Lake, forest and quiet atmosphere makes you really calm! If you like history, this is the place for you! This place is full of temples almost 1000-1200 years old. Carvings are incredible! Most of the temples are in wreck, but you can imagine their beauty. 6 Km trek to the lake (3 Km downward and 3 km upward) is medium difficulty, but very beautiful and satisfying. We enjoyed the forest on this trek. Good trekking shoes are advisable. Our guide, Mr. Amol Sardar (Mob No. 9975447088) is very knowledgeable, polite and helpful. He showed the rocks formed after meteorite impact, the iron material in the soil, magnetic material in the rocks. He also performed the pH test on the lake water. Do not miss the ride on the rim and watch lake from the watch towers. Also do not miss the Daityasudhan temple. Konark style beautiful carvings.

View from Kamlaja temple across the lake to the meteorite entry point is breathtaking. There's ongoing conservation work in the crater basin to preserve the wetlands. 11th to 12th century Yadav era temple ruins for us monument buffs.

Do take a guide, it will streamline the visit, and they have undergone basic training by the forest department. Ask for a guide at the ticket booth, it will take about 10 minutes to arrange. It's about a 6km round hike from the Dhar to the opposite bank. If you take your time it will be about 3 hours max. In the crater there's a well beaten path on flat ground through the forest. The only climb is when you return to the Dhar. Thirst and sun are your problems. Do carry water, there's nothing potable in the crater, don't drink from the streams, they are polluted. Wear a hat, the sun is blazing hot. No toilet, no food available in the crater.

It's a unique experience, you will be amazed. Enjoy!
