The view from the top of the road as well as the boating arena is very soothing and beautiful. It seems that you are staring at a painting. We went on Easter so only one type of boat was available for 1200 rs. Avoid boating

The place has boating facility, but you need to wait for the right number of people before the boat leaves. In our case we were lucky to have just the right set of people. The lake is very serene and enjoyable.

We did not expect much but the lake was very scenic. The best time to visit is the sunset. However, it is not very well maintained. We visited on the 1st of January and was very crowded. People were allowed to bring stoves and cook and the place was completely littered with garbage and food-waste. Apart from that the view... More

It is a very big man made lake surrounded by the low lying hills. Water is crystal clear. Lake is on the National Highway about 20 kms from Shillong. Good destination to visit. Boats rides are available. Around the lake there are few resorts to stay. Government of Meghalaya is developing infrastructure near the lake.

Umiam lake was formed when the Umiam river was dammed to produce Hydro power generation. The lake gives a soothing view especially when view from top and the 10 sq km lake also has a few resorts in its banks and one can also try out some water sport activities.
