- FrqIndianTravellerPune, India68 contributionsBeautiful templeVery beautiful temple. A must visit for religious and others alike. Newly made temple. Might get crowded on weekends and Mondays. I went on a Monday evening. I found queue management missing and hence lots of people joined the queue from the middle. Management can do better here. Light and sound show was good. It starts at 7:45 and lasts 30 mins. Beware that they have limited seating capacity and hence they still selling the tickets one of reaches is capacity. You can take digital devices. There are free service provided at the temple to deposit them. Shoes too. The guy at shoe counter was asking money but it's your willingness if you want to give any.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 11 December 2023

- LoloDMumbai, India326 contributionsGood experience at a beautiful temple and beach. There is a large paid car park and hawkers are restricted to the area leading upto the temple and beach. Entry to.the beach area requires a payment of Rs 5/-. The beach is clean, there is a long wide promenade that stretches past the temple on one side and on the other extends upto the triveni sangam. The temple is quite beautiful and at night is lit up in different colours. Around sunset with the setting sun, the entire area is quite lovely. The triveni sangam landscape is absolutely beautiful.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 January 2024
- Sabyasachi123Kolkata (Calcutta), India209 contributionsGorgeous temple of 1st JyotirlingaThis is a very big, peaceful & gorgeous temple. This is the 1st Jyotirlinga as per myth. Inside the temple is very nicely decorated. At one glance, you will be impressed with the atmosphere. You may avail light & sound show at night which is beautifully played. During evening arati, huge people take place. Several display units are there through which you can view the arati. Also Sea view is very nice from this temple.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 March 2024

This is the Original Somnath Mandir renovated by Rani Ahilyabai Holkar in 1783 Thus more than 250 years old. The Bigger temple has been reconstructed in 1951 and thus 72 years old. There are no restrictions on visitors in this temple. You may carry mobile camera for taking pics. You are allowed to perform Abhishek, touch and pray to this oldest Somnath Jyotirlinga. We ofcourse did Abhishek and spent lot of time praying in front of this Jyotirlinga.
There is bust of Rani Ahilyabai in front of temple mentioning year of renovation. Rani Laxmibai claimed her legacy as Kshatriya Dhangar ( Gujjar) caste. But the temple trust publically advertises Brahmanbhoj and fees or charges unfortunately disregarding her own Gujjar community 🥲🥲🥲. This board is unfortunate legacy of unequal hierarchy of exploitative caste system. I wish our Non Brahmin Prime Minister should enforce economically deprived bhoj daan in all temples now that even Supreme Court has recognised inequality on EWS!

First Jyortiling of Lord Shiva. First worshipped n constructed in gold by lord Moon was back infinitely. Then lost. Reconstructed in silver by Ravana, an ardent Shiva bhakta. Then looted by n numbers if invaders. The present one is constructed at the behest of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel the then Home Minister way back in 1953. It's amazing. The temple is far beautifullllllllllllllll. You enter n reach another world of spirituality n meditation. The Aarati is superb. The Light N Sound show marvelous. Must visit if you want to experience spiritual peace n meditation.
The temple is ashore ocean which adds to its beauty.

Great temple with dirty crowded surroundings.
Why don't the temple authorities use the money to spruce up the surroundings.
Temple painted in a horrible yellow paint which has destroyed the look of this beautiful temple. The statues in the display corridor are extremely badly made in a country which boasts of the world's best sculptures

Feeling blessed after the visit. Very neat clean and superbly managed and organized place. Had a beautiful darshan and enjoyed the sunset outside. Had opportunity to see the flag change also. Gardens around temple are also good place to sit and meditate and relax. No mobile bags and car keys allowed inside, lockers are outside to keep valuable.
One thing i didn't like even though shoe stands are there outside, people threw their chappals sandals outside making it bit ugly

One of those trips or rather pilgrimage which left a lasting impression. The temple premises is large and spread across a very wide area right next to the sea. After darshan do not forget to stand on the gallery taking in the view of the ocean. Its bound to mesmerize you!! In the evening do not miss the light and sound show which tells you the history of the place. As the waves of the ocean dash against the shore in the background you hear the story of the times gone by and feel proud of your ancestors for rising from the ashes.

Went in the evening.
+ Points
1) Main Temple very beautiful and well lit.
2) Very spacious and airy
3) Availability of clock room and other place to keep thing
4) Surrounding area very lively
- Points
1) Seperate line for entrance for Male and Female. If in a family the pleasure of seeing together gets lost.
2) Very less time to see. Security guards are too demanding.
3) No proper instructions available what to see and where to go. New people gets confused.
4) No ATM near by. Had to travel 1 Km to the nearest one
5) No cameras allowed. This is bad. You will be not able to capture the precious moments spent there

a very serene and prehistoric temple. temple is managed by the trust very nicely.considering the rush it is well managed.you cannot carry any mobile or electronic watches etc lockers are available but there was long qeue for that so we can leave these in the hotel only.there is confusion between new and old temple but i think both should be visited. we did pooja at old temple and it was very smoothly done without any cheating.

Hello Guys, I live in Hyderabad and I planning to visit Somanth Temple and Dwarka with my family members(5 members). I would appreciate if you guys let me which temple would be closest to Ahmadabad. Do I need to travel first from Ahmadabad to Somnath temple or Ahmedebad to Dwarka?
If I get a taxi like Ola from Ahmedabad , then how much do you it would be charge me to visit this two places. Do you think it would be better if I travel via bus from ahmebad to these temples or book a taxi?
Also please let me know how many days do you think I can complete this tour.
I'm planning to have this tour for 3 days. I would appreciate if you also let me know names of good sight seeing over these places.
Thanks,

Hi Ashwin,
Jai Somnath/Dwarkadhish,
I can answer all your questions but not the taxi fare.
My suggestion is to visit Somnath via an overnight train/bus from Ahmedabad first.
VIsit all places in Somnath on day 1 (you may take bus @Rs30 per person, or a taxi by yourself), you will cover Somnath in a day (plan a visit to main temple according to "Aarti" timings for full spirituality).
Take overnight train/bus to Dwarka on very 1 day, you can plan 2nd day visiting all pilgrim places in Dwarka, and if left you can plan them on day 3. ( I prefer to give Dwarka 2 days instead of Somnath).
(availability in trains are good in this route, except "Ahmedabad to Dwarka")
PS:I wrote this from my phone so may find disorganized).
Stay away from being looted
Hope it will be a help.
Thx

No one other than the priests is allowed to enter the ' Garbha Griha ' or the Sanctum Sanctorum of Somnath temple . So there is no question of touching the Jyotirlinga there . Only you can have ' Darshan ' from the Natmandir .
And for Nageswar Jyotirlinga , you will have to pay a prescribed fee to enter the Garbha griha and touch the Jyotirlinga there .
Written 8 April 2018
1 Do they allow you to touch lord krishna in bhalka tirth?
Written 17 March 2018
Yes you can touch while doing pooja or abhishek with temple priest
Generally you can only darshan of the krishna vigraha.
