Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A very impressive place. Each year many pilgrims come to this place, you can find a lot of plaques with thank notes for support of the Virgin Mary.

From January 15 to March 2, 1933, the Virgin Mary appeared eight times to an 11-year-old girl, Mariette Beco here.
You can visit the shrine, take the healing water, walk the stations of the cross and see little chapels offered by various countries.

A must visit!

it was the first time to Shrine of Our Lady of Banneux, and it was pacefull, beautiful, and place where you can pray and meditate, I went on Thursday and was not crowded, it you are Christian and devotee of Lady Mary, it is the place you have to visit at least once in your life. If you are travelling from Brussels and do not have car, you have to take the train from Brussel south railway station to Liege, from there take a bus (there are not many in the day, check the schedule), tell the driver you are travelling to banneux and he will inform when arrive to stop(around 45 minutes) from there you need 4 minutes walking, easy to arrive. let me know your experience.

This peaceful place gathers every year hundreds pilgrims during the Triduum of the sick, to confide to Our Lady their needs, pains and their wants. They come to embrace the Mother of the Saviour and to express their confidence in Jesus Christ.

Visited with family on Sunday 09/10/23 for 11:15 a.m. mass. At first we got lost then were redirected to reception. Despite our insistence (5 times), the two ladies at reception completely refused to respond to our “hello”. We continue to ask for the exact location of the mass in French and one of the ladies "But the mass has started" before even summarizing our journey the other continues "But they're Africans!!!! it's normal "there you go, like that, without embarrassment.... In the end, they tell us, "keep going straight you will find it". Small clarification, the mass had just started. Even if we were very late, what right do we have to allow ourselves this kind of comment!!

The Holy Spirit is "sent into our hearts" (Galatians 4:6)so that we might receive new life as sons of God.
I really felt united the Most Holy Trinity at Shrine of Our Lady. This place is huge. Also it's pet friendly. My dog also really enjoyed walking around.

Our Lady of Banneux is one of Marian Pilgrimage sites in Belgium with the status of Holy See Approval; the other one is Sanctuary Our Lady of Beauraing, located 97km from Banneux. the apparition in Beauraing finished in January 1933, and in the same month and year started in Banneux to small girl namely Mariette Beco. it is really worth of visit if you’re into religious things. if you need more information, its website is well-presented with 6 languages.

the biggest well-known city in Belgium closed to Banneux is Liège (27km by car). depending from where you come, Banneux can be reached by train and then continued by bus. its website also explains the different route buses’ options. there are few small hotels in this village for those wishing to stay overnight just outside the shrine gate. the shrine also offers accommodation, but I’m not sure if it is opened for individual or small group like 2 or 3 people. but surely they accommodate big group. they can be contacted via website contact.

This is the feeling you get as you set foot in the Sanctuaire. A peaceful silence that calms your turmoil and helps cleanse your mind and your spirit. It is an experience that one has to have first-hand, because words cannot appropriately and definitively describe what one undergoes.
Going there by public transport seems a little difficult, but it was quite easy. Take a train to Liege Guillemins and a 45 minute bus-ride (TEC bus 64) from the train station will take you to the Esplanade entrance (Jean Paul II stop). You can also choose to get down in Verviers Central (the next train stop after Liege Guillemins) where a 15 minute bus ride (TEC bus 727, you have to cross the street from the Central station for the bus stop and get off in the Eau Vive stop) and a short walk will bring you to the Avenue Paola entrance (note though that there are no signages indicating the Sanctuaire). The second route would also bring you nearer to one of the places you can stay if you plan to spend the night - L'Hostellerie Chaityfontaine (where we stayed for three days). Tip for non-French speakers like me: just have a print-out of your map (or save it in your device) and show the bus driver where you would like to get off.

This little-known town is the site of the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary to an 11-year old girl, Mariette Beco in 1933. The Roman Catholic Church has approved the authenticity of the apparition and the place has since been a pilgrimage site for Marian devotees. The sanctuary is a cluster of chapels tucked away in a wooded area where services are conducted mostly in French, German and Dutch. An international mass in English is held on Sundays while a blessing of the sick is held everyday at 3PM. The Rosary is recited daily at 7 PM. Schedules differ for Summer and other seasons and best to check at the Information Center located near the entrance.

What I like most about the Shrine is how the commercial center is located outside of the shrine and consists mostly of a handful of restaurants and shops in two short "main streets."

This is a place of peaceful meditation and prayers.

Totally came across this grotto by chance. Was told the story of the visitation by the Virgin Mary from a helpful lady at the gift shop as the information centre closes between 1200 and 1400. The chapels are beautiful, serene and contemplative. The well itself with the statue of Mary gives you goose bumps. Beautiful and reflective. Taps are available to take the Holy Water home or you can buy bottles from the gift shop. Restaurants and cafés are also located in the near locale to feed the faithful.
