A Christmas market must!

Excellent and extensive Christmas market, well worth a visit with a diverse range of stalls. Nice bar inside with plenty of room if you can climb steps.

A great Christmas market in the caverns below Valkenburg, with its great stalls and Gluhwein cafe, its a wonderfully christmassy experience. You will love the atmosphere as the air is filled with Christmas carols and the aroma of Gluhwien & Amaretto. Fantastic.

The only castle and cave of The Netherlands in Valkenburg is a beautiful place to visit anytime but it's more beautiful during Christmas when decorations are all around with lights and lots of shopping options. Valkenburg is very nice town with history of wars.

Visited the velvet cave (and castle) as part of a free day in Valkenburg on a National Coach tour. I think that, if we had visited the caves in isolation, then I would have been slightly disappointed in that the commentary is in Dutch. I obviously have no right to insist on an english commentary, nor would I wish to... More

I am truly mad at everyone who recommended this place to me. Since I have been in Europe, a lot of people have said that the Valkenburg Caves at Christmas time were spectacular.....WRONG! There are two different caves with an entrance fee of 7 Euros per cave. The caves look man made, have a horrible smell, and the vendors are... More

We went to Valkenburg for the Christmas markets. We read somewhere the Christmas season in Valkenburg lasted until the 8th of January, but apparently were too late... No more markets and almost empty streets. So we decided to visit the Velvet Cave instead (I'm not sure we even could visit the castle ruins with this cold weather). We got a... More

New lift up to the castle really helped this year as normally you had to climb up the steps, lovely views of the village and the history of the castle is very interesting

We visited this for the Christmas market that had been advertised. It might well be interesting from a historical perspective but definitely not worth the entrance money as a Christmas market. Very few stalls and most of them not even worth a look at, distinct lack of a Christmas feel. Avoid this place as a Christmas market and go to... More

I went to Valkenburg specially to visit the Christmas markets both the open air and the caves. Valkenburg is a small rustic old town with charming old style buildings, streets and shops. It can easily be explored on foot. The whole town was in full Christmas swing with markets and shops full of Christmas decorations, festivities and music everywhere. While... More

I have no clue why is this so hyped. You may have already seen enough photos of the caves, so here are the turn-offs: 1 - Costly, pay 7 Euros to enter & still pay another 50 Cents to use the toilets 2 - Long Queues first for tickets & then for entry (buy online) 3 - They do not... More
