Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The amphitheatre was built in the year 8 BC. It was intended for gladiatorial fights and combats between men and beasts. The stands had capacity of roughly 15 thousand spectators. The main arena is 64x44 metres. It forms a complex with Teatro Romano, but is as impressive as the theatre itself.

Impressive, as most of the main monuments in Mérida. I actually recommend the combined ticket to visit them all. Maybe the only advice would be to avoid the hot days in the summer. But, on the other hand, you have less people around those days (which is better during the COVID-19 era).

This is misleading as the photos at the top are for the adjacent performance art theatre.
This is where people got butchered!
Quite good condition with all access ways intact. Good signage and generally much quieter than the bit next door. They reckon 15k persons seated when it was intact.
This is included with the "all sites" Roman Ticket.

All part of the larger display, all of which is magnificent. The sheer size and complexity of the site is overwhelming. A must see on any visit to Spain

You would not expect a relatively small city, such as Merida is now, to hold such intesting remains. The Amphitheatre is quite a sight though I don't know how much it was restored. Well worth a visit

Nice place to visit some well preserved Roman ruins. its pretty spectacular. There's a good reason why Merida is known as "Little Rome" . We were here on a really hot day though. and be warned, its hard to find parkin.

Get there before the heat and tour buses arrive to fully appreciate the atmosphere. The information is in both Spanish and English. Well done but not overdone. Combine it with a visit to the theatre next door. Beware of uneven ground and steps. Excellent.

Never thought to find such well preserved Roman ruins in Spain. The marble columns, the steps, the statues are amazing. Next to it is the circus where the gladiators fought. In the middle of town you can see the ruins of the Forum and some of the city walls. You feel as if you had stepped back in time. Though smaller, it feels more real than the Forum in Rome. And they are still finding ruins under the very homes throughout the city of Merida, municipality of Badajoz, in Extremadura Province.

A well preserved view into Roman history and the life of a gladiator. The site is well worth a visit.
