Of all the ruins of Roman theaters we've seen, this one gives you the best idea of what it was really like. Although much of the theater is gone, it is still very impressive.

The theater is one of the highlights of the monumental complex in Mérida. If possible, make your visit outside the summer months as Mérida, and all of Badajoz province, is one of the hottest places in Spain, with temperatures often approaching 40º. We were lucky...More

We wandered the theater and nearby forum for at least an hour and were amazed how well preserved the area was. A great place for photographers!

Most archeological sites require substantial imagination to see what once was. This theatre however has been beautifully and respectfully reconstructed. Not only the tribunes but also the wall behind the podium with two stories of pillars and statues. Beautiful. Recommended!

After visiting it I understood why it is amongst the "12 Treasures of Spain" (official) and also amongst "Las 7 maravillas de España" (unofficial vote by elmundo.es). I managed it solo in two days. However suggested routes are difficult to follow. Would suggest 3 days but with children might what to think about 4 days.

As most people have recommended, I would agree that an overnight stay is worth it. There are many things to see and do and obviously trying the local food is part of the experience of travel. Enjoy!
