We timed our weekend in Chantilly with a race meeting, and it was a lot of fun. The racecourse is right in the centre of town and easily accessed on foot. I can't imagine a more picturesque location, looking across the course from the grandstand to the Chateau and world-famous stable building. The course had helpful machines (in French and English) to make it easy to place a bet, and the 8-race card was perfect for a chilly autumn afternoon's entertainment. The lay out, with the parade ring, and the main stand next to the course is ideal, and I'd highly recommend it as a fun day out, all for the amazing price of €4!!

I went racing at Chantilly and found the racecourse easy to get to. I arrived by train and the course is well signposted from the Railway Station including the distance. It was about a 15 minute walk along a wooded path to the course. I paid €3 for admittance and that included a sheet with the runners and form on it. The course has great views to the chateau and the stables on the back straight. I paid €7 for a hotdog and small bottle of wine which I consider to be good value. The racing was very good with decent sized fields and some close finishes. I would certainly recommend a visit to the Hipoodrome if you are in the area.

What a great day. First a self guided tour of Chateau de Chantilly, then caught a few great horse races at the track nearby. It was a Monday and there were very few people at the track. Which allowed one to explore and watch the race’s unencumbered. Great day.

I have been to Chantilly 3 times, always for the Prix du Jockey club (French Derby) and have always had very enjoyable trips. It is about two and a half hours drive from Calais and there is free car parking on the course. The course is obviously very old as is the main grandstand. The place had a renovation some years ago but the stand still shows its age especially if you climb the many stairs up to the roof viewing areas. You will be rewarded with fantastic views of the course and Chantilly but I couldn't help wondering if some of the UK's most zealous H&S officials would even let people go up there due to its age and condition.
The area around the parade ring is delightful and, if the sun is shining, it is a real pleasure to watch the horses parade here.
Viewing the races is also very easy as the stand is mostly made up of unreserved free seating and even on derby day it is easy to get a good spot.
Unlike English racecourses the opportunities to buy drinks on course are quite limited and the beer is expensive.
There is talk of the Prix de l'arc de triomphe being run here if and when they redevelop Longchamp. It is hard to see how this track, as it stands, could manage the Arc day crowd unless they make it all ticket in which case I would say, get in quick. It would certainly need a lot of temporary facilities but if they got it right, I'd want to be there.
If you have a chance to go for the Jockey Club or Prix de Diane I would highly recommend a visit.

Beautiful course with stunning views of the chateau. Plenty of places to sit. Big screen by the paddock but it needs one at the front too. Lacks food outlets only one barman trying to serve drinks and food!
Would recommend.

We had seen the course from the Chateau in January and found there was a meeting on 28th April en route to Burgundy. We were not disappointe d. It's not large like Ascot or Cheltenham. It is a first rate course, excellent facilities and costs €5 to enter. We ate in the Panoramic Restaurant, not a cheapie, but good food and excellent service. We could keep the table until the racing ended and were served tea coffee when required. There were not many people, so parking was easy and free. It's normally €3! There are also other eating locations. So, go and enjoy. It's about 2 hours from the Channel Tunnel.

Absolutely first class. We cannot say how wonderful this place is and the staff and people around the place are so welcoming and friendly. Cannot praise them enough for the way we were looked after. They made our trip to France, so special.

For the Prix du Jockey Club to be one of the top events in the French racing calendar there are a few things need to improve.
Access from the railway station is terrible on foot down a sandy, rocky path. Ladies in their beautiful new shoes do not need this assault course after preparing and dressing accordingly to fit such an event.
The racing evert itself was fantastic. Great races, great horses and great facilities in the old fashioned, well designed grandstand to spectate from.
Unfortunately at the end of the event I had to ask for help from the help desk to order a taxi to which theymust have thought I asked for a lend of 100 euros ! A bit unhelpful here. It took me a few minutes to get the helper to order me 2 taxis . The 2 girls had to use their own mobiles to do this. How pathetic! As I say they did not want to help me firstly, but with my frustration at boiling point they agreed to be useful. It has to be said that they were hardly rushed off their feet with nobody else during the 5 minutes of me being there came to ask anything of them at all. I must repeat this was The French Derby ,Chantilly,France, a prestigious event if ever there was one. 2 helpers with no phone access from the authorities, I mean come on, pull your socks up France racing.

Comment fonctionne le billet d'entrée. Je voudrais l'accès aux différentes animations, le billet d'entrée suffit il ou faut il prendre un billet pour chaque chose ? vaut il mieux prendre le billet sur place ou sur internet ?
Merci

un ticket suffit (pour l'hippodrome....)
à acheter sur place sans problème

I would like to get reserved seating for the Prix de Diane at Chantilly. I've only been there on quieter racing days with no problem getting access. Are there grandstand reserved seats available? The France-Galup website only has general admission and Restaurant Panoramique for sale.

Bonjour

What would best option be for an older couple (in their 70's), who would want to have a guaranteed seat, good view of races and not have to go up/down too many stairs. The couple are attending the Arc Sunday and happy to pay a bit more but just want to see how we book a guaranteed seat.
Thanks

Can anybody please tell me if men are required to wear a tie and what the general dress code is for men and women at the Chantilly race course Panoramic restaurant. We are going on May 28 for the le Prix Ispahan Group 1 race.
Also can anybody please give me an idea of what the food and beverage packages cost on race days like this. Do they have food and beverage packages? I have emailed the restaurant several times but am yet to get an answer.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

The dress code is smart, but not sure that a tie is necessary. You can reserve a table via the France-Galop 'Billetterie on their website France Galop. Do this when you buy your tickets. If you want a decent meal do book in at the Panoramique, other catering options are pretty limited.

Im trying to organise a trip to the Arc at Chantilly races for my husbands 50th birthday in , is it best to stay in Paris and travel to Chantilly on the day, any advice would be much appreciated
Written 14 January 2017
There are trains from the Gare du Nord to Chantilly- Gouvieux, and also there is a RER METRO
service as well. The train is quicker. I would have thought it perfectly possible and possibly cheaper to stay in Paris. Chantilly is not a big town and I imagine accommodation to be expensive Arc weekend.
Written 30 January 2017
french bloodstock advises there are races on 020217 and France Galop also advises there is a meeting on this date. Is there a way to confirm that this is correct and if so do you recommend a site to book a day trip on?

I will be visiting Paris in February 2017 and would like to attend the races at Chantilly. Are there meetings in February and if so how can we book transportatinon and the restaurant?
Written 11 January 2017
There is no racing at Chantilly in February.Checkout the Chateau website for details of the Chateau and The Grand Stables. Worth a visit.
