Must see in city
Aug. 2020 • Friends
Three museums (two art museums and a small and comfy cavalry museum), nice cafes, lots of shops with local arts and crafts. We had pancakes with honey that’s made by bees local to the fortress yard!

The most important tourist attraction in Lappeenranta
Jul. 2020
The fortress area hosts museums, an old Orthodox Church, cafes, restaurants, and artisan shops.

Most of the buildings date from the time of Russian rule, the 18th and 19th centuries. The main street, Kristiinankatu, was named after the Swedish queen, Christina.

The guardhouse at the Main Gate hosts the Cavalry Museum. You can also visit the Lappeenranta Art Museum and the South Karelia Museum.

There are panoramic views from the embankments around the fortress.

Peaceful place
Feb. 2020 • Solo
Very quite and peaceful place. I was traveling alone and came there occasionally, and I was surprised with an atmosphere inside. I spent 2 hours walking around (winter time) - the place is amazing for thinking about eternal things by yourself!

Interesting.

Lovely spot on the shores of Lake Saimaa, plenty of cafes and shops at least in the summertime. Hired bicycles to get around the place and that was just perfect for exploring.

Historical sights, viewpoints, small boutiques and cozy restaurants
Oct. 2018 • Solo
Lappeenranta Fortress (Linnoitus) is "THE MUST" sight in Lappeenranta. It is a lively old town. There are both sights, restaurants, beautiful views and local dwelling houses there.

Most important sights are South Karelia Museum (a historical museum), Lappeenrannan taidemuseo (an art museum), Taky Galleria (a picture and handicraft gallery) and the Church of the Intercession of the Mother of God (the oldest Orthodox church in Finland, also known as Pokrovan kirkko, built in 1785). Good restaurants are Coffee House Majurska, Kehruuhuone, Linnoituksen Krouvi, Satamatie 6 and Wanha Makasiini. Read separate Tripadvisor reviews about all these sights and restaurants.

Lappeenranta Fortress is a nice walking area and an excellent photography spot. I recommend it for everybody. There are also nice boutiques in the fortress. You shouldn't visit Lappeenranta without seeing Lappeenranta Fortress.

Nice views and relaxing atmosphere
Sep. 2018 • Couples
Fortress is in front of Saimaa bay. From here you can enjoy nice views of that lake and also relax under some tree in the green area. Fortress is composed by old houses and museum, there are also some nice coffee where you can relax and taste local food. It's not so big place, so i think you can visit in 1 hour. Near fortress you can find easly parkings without pay.

An epic bastion
Aug. 2018 • Couples
What a superb fortress. A real credit to the Royal Engineers of Sweden , Russia and Finland who constructed the bastions, ground defences, ravelines, casemates, ditches and magazines.
