Geografisk Have er omtrentlig 100 ar gammel. Begyndelsen pa anlæggelsen af den have, som vi kender i dag, pabegyndte Aksel Olsen i 1917. Aksel Olsen, 1887-1982, dansk gartner og planteskoleejer. I 1917 grundlagde han planteskolen Brændekjærhøj i Kolding og udsendte aret efter kataloger over et stort materiale, især stauder indført fra mange dele af verden, alle udsaet og gennemprøvet under danske forhold. De mange planter fra forskellige verdensdele gav ham ideen til i 1925 at oprette en geografisk botanisk have, hvor planter fra samme hjemegn blev placeret under ensartede forhold. Det var starten pa det vi i dag kender som Geografisk Have. Aksel Olsen har med skovl, spade og hestespand og sit omhyggelige plantevalg formgivet en have, for at hjembringe planter og skabe stiliserede gengivelser af verden udeomkring. Disse landskaber oplever man bedst ved at vandre pa nøje, planlagte stier, der præcist styrer os hen, hvor vi far de bedste kig og mest betagende overraskelser. Kulturarv og have Aksel Olsens Geografisk Have fortæller om fremmede egne bade i scenografi og plantevalg. Haven er udformet saledes, at man skal pirres og sanse undervejs, at man oplever det tætsluttede løv og de store abne vidder, grotten og klippefremspringet, det labyrintiske rum og stejle, dramatiske slugter. Pa ekspedition mod fremmede egne Aksel Olsen var ikke kun en passioneret og kyndig kender indenfor planter, men ogsa poet og tegner. Hans bog “Op ad Chinas blaa flod paa plantejagt” der er udgivet i 1934, er et godt eksempel pa dette særlige talent. Her beskriver Aksel Olsen landskabelige, botaniske og folkloristiske detaljer om sin rejse langs Kinas floder. Rejseoplevelsen indledes med f0lgende scetning: “Har lceseren lyst til at f0lge med en Tur til ‘China -Himalaya’, Landet mellem Tibet og China, som vi nys saa et Glimt af, det Land, der mere end alle andre lande maa ligne hvad vi forestiller os som Paradisets Have.” Rejsebeskrivelser er i dag velkendt som dagbogs-form, der formidler m0det med fremmede egne. Det særlige ved denne bog er imidlertid, at Aksel Olsen aldrig har været pa denne rejse. Bogen er alene en gengivelse af hans egen forestilling om det fjerne, eksotiske land og dets folk. Derfor er hans minuti0st, medrivende rejsebeskrivelse enestaende, ikke kun for sin tid, men som en betagende landskabsfortælling, der ogsa er vedkommende i dag. Talent og brand Aksel Olsen beherskede mange talenter som botanisk ekspertise, praktisk viden og flid men ogsa mere kunstneriske talenter. Aksel Olsen kan ogsa i vor tid være et inspirerende forbillede for botanikere og hverdagslivets haveelskere, men ogsa for vor tids ud0vere af kunst og poesi. Med nutidens begreber var Aksel Olsen trendsætter af have og landskab. Gennem viden og omhu formede Aksel Olsen en have med metoder, hvor man bruger blomster og planter som palet i et tredimensionelt landskabsbillede. Haven er derfors ikke kun historisk og botanisk interessant, men afspejler en pionerand for inspirerende formgivning af havedesign. Derfor er Aksel Olsens Geografisk Have unik og repræsenterer en særlig kulturarv for Kolding og for Danmark.

Good area for All family members to take a Walke and see the garden, plenty of room for kids to play, and you can make picnic ord bring stuff for barbecue grills Will be lit by staff. Se homepage for details.

Dear Kim Thank you for the nice review. We are happy to hear that you had a good time. For information I can tell that the size of the garden is 12 ha and about 5-6 is grass were you can play and walk.

Thanks for your lovely rewiev. We are happy to here you had fun with our animals and the mini city - a miniture replica of Kolding Town ca. anno 1850 in a corner of the garden.

The Geographical Gardens takes you around the world in only 5 kilometers and add green house and petting zoo and it makes a great afternoon

This place is a bit pricey (80,-) but it is a good place to spend an afternoon (especially if the weather is nice) There are many beautiful trees and flowers to enjoy. The park occasionally has concerts in their 'Kamelia-house'. There is a little playground...More

If you visit Kolding in the spring or summertime, this is a must see. The gardens are beautiful and Kolding Mini By is fun for locals as well. So pack a lunch or buy a sandwich at the cafe, and enjoy the scenery.
