i am really glad we were able to play this course. A really good layout designed by Ron Garl. Home of an Asian tour event and plays over 7,500 yards from the back tees with a 652 yard par 5. We played the white tees (6,400 yards) and found the course challenging but fair. Ball carries well due to elevation. Caddies were very helpful. Mine had over 11 years experience at Alpine. Was surprised there did not appear to be any professional staff on hand when we were there.

Wonderful golf course, but we were really let down. Initially no cart available for the first hole, then play so so slow we were wait on every shot and at some holes 15 minutes to play. We tee'd off at 1330 and we played the last whole in the dark. Two groups behind us did not finish. Really disappointing given we paid top dollar as part of a Golf Asian tour.

It is a nice course, no doubt, but the wow-factor can be a let down. Nothing spectacular about the layout, unlike Mae-Jo. Here, you just need to hit it long, and avoid the rough. If you are lucky to land a good caddy (from the queue), putting lines should not be an issue. However, if you get an old caddy, don't expect too much. Just rely on your own vision where your shots land, and check with other caddies on the lines on the greens. Otherwise, you will end up angry and frustrated. Remember to try to enjoy without too high an expectation.

My son and I played yesterday after full 24 hours rain and the course was still in superb condition, the fairways are lush and the greens are superb. The 27 holes are surrounded by hills covered in jungle on all sides. It’s a good test of golf with water to avoid on most holes. We played the C loop which was excellent with some really interesting holes followed by the A loop that was a bit easier.
The course was very empty, our caddies were nice and all of the staff at the resort were very welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend it if you are visiting Chiang Mai for golf.

This is one of the best golf courses I played in Thailand. The best in Chiangmai. The fairways are very well maintained but are narrow, lots of water on both side. Lots of bunkers too. It is a very challenging course to play. Golf cart is a must for guests and visitors. Cost is on the high side. Some caddies are too new and not so knowledgeable. Management should get them trained before sending out to be a caddy at this first class golf course.

Played one round at Alpine Golf Club and one round at Chiang Mai Highland with three friends during our 5 days visit in Chiang Mai.
Both courses are in good condition, but Caddies of Alpine is really out standing, beside holding unberlla, they also use a fan to keep you cool while you are waiting for your turn to hit.
After golf, they ask you to take of your golf shoes and wait in cart, they do clean it nicly.
I personally think that this is a A1 service, something to talk about and remember, sure I will go Alpine again when my next visit to CM.

This course was originally built in the '80s and called Chiang Mai-Lamphun Golf Course - a very modest clubhouse and tight course. Around 10 years ago new owners took over and did a major reconstruction of the course - rerouting the layout and constructing several new holes. A new clubhouse and adjacent hotel were built and the entire operation is on a far larger scale than before.
In its new form, the course is undoubtedly one of the top two in the Chiang Mai area. Having said that, on a recent visit my friends and I had so many negative experiences that we have decided not to bother going back there again.
Like many courses in Thailand, there is a dual-pricing policy (irksome but something we have learned to accept) but here the 'foreign' premium is substantially more than commonly experienced. Having purchased the Green fees, one is then required to buy a Stored Value Card to be used for paying for drinks and food out on the course. No cash is accepted at the drinks kiosks. Any unused balance on the card is refunded after the round. This is clearly to guard against fraud, but is somewhat annoying. How many people forget to go back and get the unused balance refunded after the game?
Out on the course, the caddies in our group were, in their entirety, sullen and unhelpful. Quite the worst group of caddies we have ever come across in 30 years of playing golf in Thailand. Efforts to help find balls hit off the fairways were minimal and done with reluctance. Very little in the way of volunteering information on each hole and with lines on the green - understandable if none of the players can speak Thai, but that was not so in our case.
Most annoyingly, we were told we could only play off the White tee boxes. Being experienced players, we usually play off the Blues, but the Starter told us that they were for the Pros. We asked who the Blacks were for but this seemed to confuse things. Then after a good deal of debate we were told that the Blues were for single digit handicappers only, so we duly produced Handicap Cards to evidence that we were indeed off single digits. Clearly annoyed with us, we were then told that we could play off the Blues but there would be trouble if we did not keep up with the group ahead.
The course was definitely overbooked - we teed off 35 minutes late and finished the last hole pretty much in the dark. Even though the course was in good shape - well maintained, good greens and interesting holes, we will not return. Chiang Mai Highlands is, for me, a better layout and the entire experience so much more pleasurable and welcoming.

By all accounts, this course is owned by one of the recent prime ministers and offers a very challenging round for all standards of players. The course was presented in excellent condition and the greens were lightning fast after a recent tournament but the experience was spoiled somewhat by the caddie. I accept that there will be communication problems but I do expect a caddy to be able to follow the ball when my failing eye sight loses track and at least give some assistance with the read of the green.

First time playing at Apline GC. The information I'd read before visiting said it was a fantastic course. And that was proved to be right. Probably the best condition of any golf course I've played on in Asia over the past 14 years living in this part of the world. I did play here a few weeks after the Chiang Mai Open had been staged on the course, so probably found it in as good a condition as it ever gets.
From immaculate tee boxes, along velvety fairways (if you can hit them!), and consistent and true greens. The rough (which I found myself in a lot) doesn't look too bad, but believe me, it's brutal. The grass, while not that long, envelopes golf balls and ties itself around golf clubs very well!
My only gripe with the place (which is a common gripe when playing golf 'Asian style') is that play is way too slow. As I always say - no amount of money can buy course etiquette!. The slow play isn't helped by the fact that tee times for 4-balls (and occassional 5-balls) are at only 10 minute intervals. I'm sorry, but I've never met any group of golfers playing in Asia who are capable of playing to such time intervals once off the first tee. Not unless they are single-digit handicap players.
It would seem that in the club's quest for revenue optimisation (remember that any "club" in Asia is really run as a business primarily, not a club at all) far exceeds its focus on having visitors' playing experience be as good as it could be.
The first nine holes I and my wife played (we were joined by two local visitors too) took over 3 hours. Seriously, when all players are in compulsory buggies and it takes that long, then there's something seriously wrong with peoples' attitudes to how long it should take to play a round of golf. As is to be expected on any course in Asia, course Marshalls exist as token gestures by the course owners to suggest that play is well organised! They do little or nothing to speed up the pace of play. They have no power and would never think about criticising or questioning some wealthy Asian golfer's pace of play.
In summary - if you like great surroundings, excellent course conditions, a good test of golf, and a fabulous and modern club house and facilities .... and you don't mind standing around for 5 minutes on every shot, then Alpine GC would be a great choice. If, like me, slow play frustrates you and plays havoc with your focus and concerntration (and hence your swing and score), then better to stay away.

12 of us golfers have a game on 27th November 2014. We play early in the morning and the weather is sunny and cool with the temperature of around 20 degrees Celsius. There are several tee boxes with different degree of play. As black being the furthest and bronze being the shortest. We are allowed to played at the white tee box. Maybe our average handicap is around 16. Caddies are quite helpful and they do read the green accurately. Buggies are not allow to be driven by golfers and into the fairways, only the caddies are to drive. Hitting your golf balls in the fairway is like hitting golf balls on the carpet at the driving range only softer. The roughs are tough and hitting your ball out is an experience you will not forget. Greens are fast and have an optical illusion on some greens. On that you must trust your caddy if it goes uphill or down. Bunkers traps are aplenty. They trap low and high handicappers, on the fairways and surround the greens.
Scenery are just scenic on the whole course with trees and lakes.
For me as an 18 handicapper this course I rate from the scale of 1 to 10
1 being easy and 10 hardest.
Difficulty - 8
Playability - 7
Service - 10 ( The caddies clean and blow your golf shoes after the game)
