Do yourself a favor and skip it. If you have time while in Santa Marta and want to take a day trip to experience some nature, I'd much sooner recommend Tayrona National Park. The few hours I spent in the Sierra Nevada mountains were underwhelming, and Pozo Azul was overcrowded. On the other hand Tayrona was absolutely magical.

Amazing hostels with spectacular views, a local organic coffee farm, horseback riding with the most prideful horses I have seen in South America and great food - Sierra Navada is Columbia at it´s best. Don´t stay directly in Minca but in one of the many hostels up the hill. It´s worth the extra mile!

You need to take a guided tour, or you will get lost. The mountains are lush with vegetation you are going through a jungle. There is a large coffee plantation you can visit. You can see Santa Marta from the mountains, a historic port city, one of South America's oldest. But to experience Santa Marta you need to walk the... More

The Sierra Nevada mountains around Minca offer some very decent hiking trails and some sights, such as coffee plantations and beautiful views. Trails can be pretty steep and the heat can be oppressive, so bring plenty of water.

The visit to the high lands of Sierra Nevada begins with an informal reservation at the Cafe de Minca store. They offer two tours: coffee and/or cacao, From seed to cup! To get to the Finca La Candelaria you ride on the back of a motorcycle, -yes! that you hire at the center of town. The guys who offer this... More

Upon arrival in Minca, we heard that one has to be very lucky to be able to see the highest coastal mountain in the world, Pico Cristobal Colon. Mostly, it's very cloudy, especially in the rain season. However, we asked around town and the shopkeeper claimed that if we left early enough in his Land Rover, we'd be able to... More

Initially, the tour was great. The young lady who showed us around was very kind and knowledgable as it was our first ever visit to a coffee farm. We also had some nice cold beer and a piece of banana bread and even purchased a few bags of coffee to bring home. We really appreciated the tour and she even... More

Its a quick taxi drive up a nice mountain road to get there and then you can get a hotel in town or in various nearby coffee finca hostels which are quieter. Mince has a lot of backpackers and young people so that is an attraction if thats what you like. Lots of good eating but a little noisy. I... More
