You can see the rare Nanbat
You can see the rare "Nanbat" which you can't see at other zoos. But what is a Nanbat? Its Japanese name is a numbat, and it's very small and agile, so it doesn't look like much. If you're an animal nerd, this is for you. I went there in the middle of the day in midsummer (February), so all the main animals were hiding to avoid the heat, so I couldn't see them very well (I was able to see the Nanbat).

    Family visit to the zoo.
The zoo is so well planned out, it is so easy to walk around and it has a beautiful feel to it with all the beautiful mature trees. It was a warm day when we were there and the trees provided a great amount of shade. There is a wonderful restaurant in the zoo with great food and a beautiful outlook.

    Great family day out
Great family day out. 27 degree day and he animals were active. My kids 7 & 4 absolutely loved it. Can't understand the negative reviews as we thought they have done such a great job with gardens etc and it's a great day out. Lots of animals to see we were impressed. Lived in Melbourne for years and we prefer the Perth Zoo. The cafe, however, is ridiculously expensive for the quality of food.

    An amazing zoo!
Visited Perth zoo on the 28th of March with my mum, dad, husband and baby daughter. We were all so very impressed. Of all the zoos in Australia, Perth zoo is the cheapest; amazing value! The different variety of animals is enough to keep the whole family entertained for the whole day. Great tree coverage, making the zoo feel cooler on warm days. We will be back!

    Huge range of animals
Great for all ages. We spent well over 4 hours there with grandchildren and managed to visit every enclosure/habitat. All the usual big cat type animals, monkeys etc but also a wide range of indigenous animals as well, with many breeding schemes to help project endangered species. Well worth a visit even if you are not mad keen on animals!

Beautiful to walk through the zoo but sadly missed quite a few animals, particularly ones usually easily seen. Thank you
Unfortunately there was lots of work going on with some of the enclosures which left quite a lot closed. Was disappointed not to see lions - only saw one lioness. Didn’t see any otters or quokkas. Did see the gibbons which was lovely but not many other types of monkeys, etc The merry go round was lovely to see & that it has been kept fairly pristine. Unfortunately the food was very disappointing- chips were cold & the wraps had been sitting there for so long they were dry - perhaps there should be a time put on things as happens in other places. And perhaps more food & drink outlets as pins the park. Sorry to be such a negative Nellie but we’ve been to zoos in nearly every other state & they have been awesome.

    Enjoyable zoo visit
Took advantage of the free zoo ticket initiative of state govt (thank you!) to spend a morning at the zoo. We were worried about it being crowded due to increased patronage and having parking problems, so we made sure we got there right on opening time, at 9am. As it turned out we had a more relaxed experience than we usually have when we go later, and indeed it was getting pretty busy by 11am. We saw a lot of animals we had not been able to sight before, including the tiger, lions, sun bear so we felt pretty happy with this. There are always going to be some animals in hiding but that is par for the course for any zoo. There is development going on but it did not impact our visit, just walking around the beautful gardens was great in itself.

    Sadly disappointed
Visited the Perth zoo this morning and I must say I was disappointed with the lack of variety of animals. A new playground and upmarket restaurant was nice but feel this money could have been used to expand the space for more animals. And exhibits. The area is full of expensive restaurants and bars. I don’t think we needed more of either. Disappointed.

    Enjoyable day
We really enjoyed the zoo. There was a decent variety of animals. Lots of shade to walk through the zoo. Plenty of watering facilities to top your bottle up with. Our family enjoyed it. Attended a couple of the Keepers Talks too.

Despite the smaller size and fewer animals than other zoos, it was still a fun day out. Visitors were respectful of the animals and they seemed happy; the kangaroos in particular were extremely relaxed and not bothered by noisy tourists. Some exhibits were closed during my visit for maintenance, particularly most of the primates and the lions. A few large sections were also blocked off for construction. At the moment your only options for food are a selection of food trucks on the main lawn near the front which provided some great food at acceptable prices - the truck I bought my lunch from charged around $13 for a cheese tomato pitta and around $7-8 for a milkshake. Considering the prices I'm used to when I visit Melbourne Zoo, this was a nice surprise. If you're on your own I'd recommend treating yourself to an ice cream from the vending machines around the zoo, though as each costs $5-6 I would avoid this if you're coming with the kids. The entrance fee was also cheaper than Melbourne and offers a larger discount for students. The gift shop was also a good size with a large range of items, most at average prices.

Although it can be an expensive day, I thought the whole day was pleasurable, with a few disappointing animal enclosures, but that all depends on weather and feeding times.
It doesn't compare to Taronga or Australia Zoo, but that is to be expected in a small isolated city like Perth. A majority of the enclosures were well maintained and good viewing of animals.
I would advise to take your own food and drinks if you can to save on expenses. There were restaurant renovations while we were there, but still something if you need from food vans.

Since our Tour to Margaret River & Bussleton had been Cancelled by our Tour Company we were a bit stuck for something to do on Boxing Day . We eventually decided to go to the Perth Zoo for the Day . Our Hotel was right next to Elizabeth Quay where there was a Ferry every 15 minutes across the Swan River and then a 7 minute walk to the Zoo . Very easy . We were at the Zoo in no time . Entrance to Zoo cost $27.50 which is the Senior Concession rate . Good Value.
We were supplied with a Map of the Zoo , which was very easy to Navigate . The Zoo is on quite Flat Ground for the most part except for the Australian Bush Walk and the Asian Rainforest which is on a slope , but was still an easy walk. We liked the fact that you could walk amongst the Australian Animals in the very large Enclosed Australian Bush environment . At the Entrances and Exit there were large signs reminding Visitors to check for any Animals that might try to follow you out of the Enclosure .
The Zoo is very Educational , with good Signage . They even have some of the Old Animal enclosures from the Distant Past as a reminder to Guests how Animal Welfare is paramount in this Day & Age .
On the Main Lawn there is a large Children's Playground , Toilets and Food Outlets . A lot of Families were having Picnics .
There was an Information Hub and the obligatory Gift Shop .
This is an Excellent Zoo and we were very pleased we decided to attend .

Taking advantage of the current free tickets offer made available through the ServiceWA app I took my grandson to the zoo, looking forward to an enjoyable day seeing a variety of different animals. I had been pre warned regarding the rip off and poor food choices on offer so we took our own. Regrettably I have little positive to say except that "free" was about the right price for the experience. I felt that we walked and we walked and we walked, but honestly saw very little in the way of animals. What we did see was for the most part, a long way away from the walking paths. The zoo is undergoing a lot or reconstruction which I hope makes it a lot better. I haven't been for many years but a lot of the infrastructure is tired and worn and doesn't look to have had much done to it since 1999 when I first visited. Perth Zoo is in my opinion very underwhelming and not a patch on zoo's such as Singapore Zoo where animals to see abound. The normal price of tickets is expensive and if you are a family a significant sum of money for what I don't think is anywhere close to value for money. If you want a better experience seeing and being close to animals consider Caversham Wildlife Park.

Unfortunately our visit to the Zoo with our kids was a very poor experience, there were very few animals on show, ie 1 Koala for the whole zoo.

The zoo is well laid out but some areas under construction. It was a poor comparator to Sydney zoo, not expecting the same but proportionally underwhelming.

It is not cheap for the experience, no food or drink stalls open but a few vending machines.

Overall a bloody disappointing experience. We we're looking forward to a relaxing afternoon and a decent feed. The only thing available now is Wagtails which is overpriced tasteless rubbish and cashless to boot. Consider going elsewhere or if you must visit, then bring your own food as Wagtails is an absolute ripoff.

What a fab day.Parking is extremely challenging so be warned.Other than that when you get there the staff are amazing from the point of entry throughout zoo.We arrived and due to our parking problem were going to miss one of the encounters we had booked, however the staff saved the day and we were able to go on a later one which wasn’t fully booked.Thank you guys.
We went on the Orangutan encounter and also Giraffe encounter and also Zebra Bus.Totally amazing experiences.
Although busy the zoo is so big you are not aware of this and able to walk around and take your time.
Plenty of places to buy food and drink.

We took the children to the zoo and we spent almost a whole day walking among animal enclosures. We entered at 9 AM with the kids who did not pay for entry as they were under 4 years old and we moved following the map of the zoo provided. Some animals (including rhinos) were still closed because the cleaning of their encosure was still in progress. This zoo contains a fair amount of animal species, some of which are very rare to see in the wild, but as the well-being of these animals is taken care of in this zoo, the enclosures are large and full of hiding places so that a good part of species are not visible even here. In fact, you would have to wait a long time to see the hiding animals, an impossible situation with kids. However, a valid educational experience for the kids and for us too.

Visiting Perth Zoo is always a great family activity for all ages to see all the favourite animals. However our timing was out and our favourite animals were sleeping in the middle of the day. Namely the otters, meercats and big cats. No worries, there were still plenty of other great animals to see such as the penguins, rhinos, zebras and giraffes. The monkeys and apes were still quite active. It was not too hot that day and anyway there are plenty of trees for shade. Thank goodness for trees. The volunteer we spoke to, Margaret, who had been there for 22 years, was invaluable for her help, interaction and information. She knew all the history and changes in the Zoo over time. It is wonderful how the Zoo works to preserve endangered animals going with other Zoos. A great place to visit!
