Perth zoo, a must to visit
Outstanding zoo. Had a great day. Easy to walk and beautiful grounds in the city suburbs. Lovely lush greenery, shade and good level pathways. All animal enclosure with good viewing, allow 3 hours Max to walk and view. 10/10 for zoo visits

Zoo has many animals that will interest visitors
Perth Zoo has many animals that interest visitors. The indigenous animals compose a wide selection of Australian fauna, which may not be seen anywhere. Crowd favorites include the meerkats, elephants, bears and tigers. The orang utans, which means "man of the forest" in Indonesian, are amongst the rarest primates in the world. The Perth Zoo is the only zoo to return orang utans into the wild. The ferry from the Perth CBD only takes a few minutes, and from Mend St Jetty the walk to the Zoo is only around 5 minutes. By the way, the meticulously-tended gardens are well known feature of the Zoo, it's a great place for a family picnic

    Good family experience
Although it can be an expensive day, I thought the whole day was pleasurable, with a few disappointing animal enclosures, but that all depends on weather and feeding times. It doesn't compare to Taronga or Australia Zoo, but that is to be expected in a small isolated city like Perth. A majority of the enclosures were well maintained and good viewing of animals. I would advise to take your own food and drinks if you can to save on expenses. There were restaurant renovations while we were there, but still something if you need from food vans.

    Good half day out
Good for a half day adventure. Many animals hiding during our visit, but the primates where out & about so good to watch & take photos. For younger kids, the booklet for ticking animals & statues off is a great idea.

A valid educational experience for the kids
We took the children to the zoo and we spent almost a whole day walking among animal enclosures. We entered at 9 AM with the kids who did not pay for entry as they were under 4 years old and we moved following the map of the zoo provided. Some animals (including rhinos) were still closed because the cleaning of their encosure was still in progress. This zoo contains a fair amount of animal species, some of which are very rare to see in the wild, but as the well-being of these animals is taken care of in this zoo, the enclosures are large and full of hiding places so that a good part of species are not visible even here. In fact, you would have to wait a long time to see the hiding animals, an impossible situation with kids. However, a valid educational experience for the kids and for us too.

Zoo is great but beware of not purchasing a parking ticket.
Four of us have been zoo members. Never tire of visiting. We often visit after school for afternoon tea as our granddaughters love the place. I will just add a note of warning. The fee for not displaying a parking fine is a ridiculous $104.

    Fab day out.
What a fab day.Parking is extremely challenging so be warned.Other than that when you get there the staff are amazing from the point of entry throughout zoo.We arrived and due to our parking problem were going to miss one of the encounters we had booked, however the staff saved the day and we were able to go on a later one which wasn’t fully booked.Thank you guys. We went on the Orangutan encounter and also Giraffe encounter and also Zebra Bus.Totally amazing experiences. Although busy the zoo is so big you are not aware of this and able to walk around and take your time. Plenty of places to buy food and drink.

Watch Visit Timing and Go Early
Visiting Perth Zoo is always a great family activity for all ages to see all the favourite animals. However our timing was out and our favourite animals were sleeping in the middle of the day. Namely the otters, meercats and big cats. No worries, there were still plenty of other great animals to see such as the penguins, rhinos, zebras and giraffes. The monkeys and apes were still quite active. It was not too hot that day and anyway there are plenty of trees for shade. Thank goodness for trees. The volunteer we spoke to, Margaret, who had been there for 22 years, was invaluable for her help, interaction and information. She knew all the history and changes in the Zoo over time. It is wonderful how the Zoo works to preserve endangered animals going with other Zoos. A great place to visit!

    Family visit to the zoo.
The zoo is so well planned out, it is so easy to walk around and it has a beautiful feel to it with all the beautiful mature trees. It was a warm day when we were there and the trees provided a great amount of shade. There is a wonderful restaurant in the zoo with great food and a beautiful outlook.

The setting is lovely and the staff and volunteers were excellent but we saw very few animals. It was really a disappointing day. The weather was scorching, so that probably contributed. The cafe was also quite basic but again, great gardens.

I did not find my experience there that enjoyable, would probably not go again.
Entry was expensive, and the food from the café was expensive and very poor!

I took my daughter, I knew what we were in for. I’m not one for zoos and it was exactly as I’d expected. Very interesting for a child but the reality is it’s a prison. Beautiful elephants staring into the abyss swaying constantly. Swaying is a sign of stress and a sign that the elephant needs to be released to a sanctuary instead of being on display in a zoo where it cannot behave like a free elephant and may or may not have other elephants to socialise with. Elephants might engage in these behaviours when they feel unstimulated or as an anticipatory reaction to their normal routine.
So sad to see and to think Perth Zoo profits from their misery.

A few of the animals when we arrived at 9.30am were still locked up eg. wild dogs, rhino, hyenas. This is the third visit where we didn’t see the tiger ( is there even a tiger or is it a scam?) Definitely not value for money and won’t be returning.

Very sad to see some enclosures way to small for animals, and that some animals are on their own and bored to death very sad
