Interesting museum. A guide shows you mining machinery of the 30s and 40s of the last century at location underground. The area is big. Was not easy to find the entrance. The ticket office is a round yellow building. That might be a help.

The site is amazing, it is advisable to walk around before visiting the museum (in the summer, preferably not at the hottest hours of the day). The guide in the museum was very good, and so were the explanatory materials too. Texts are in Italian...More

Our guide was brilliant and the visit was so very interesting even though we come from the home of mines in south wales but it was fascinating and well worth a visit

My wife and I visited the museum one Sunday afternoon, it was fascinating. Not only is there an exhibition showing the history of mining in the area, but you also get to travel over 900 metres along mine shafts to see what it was like....More

This is not only a mining museum where you can visit a (reconstructed) coal mine, but also a beautiful industrial site, a wonderful building and an interesting exposition on the history of Carbonia.

The museum is fantastic and I suggest the underground visit. You can see the real life of sardinian miners in '40 and '50.

Particularly appreciated the "underground experience", even from a mine worker point of view. As it is often the case in Sardinia, driving directions up to parking & museum entrance are just NOT-EXISTING, you nearly need to be escorted through the vast converted old mining area...More

A very interesting and informative few hours can be enjoyed at the Carbonia Museum of Mining. The information takes you from the mid 1930's where manual mining (picks and shovels) was used through to modern day practices, as used throughout the world. Throw in important...More

I visited Carbonia in mid-February. My reason for visiting was to go to the mining museum at the “Great Mine of Serbariu” which included a trip underground! It was not easy to find the entrance, but eventually I arrived at the mine, which was like...More

The museum gives a fascinating insight into the development of Carbonia and the rise & fall of the coal mining industry in the area. The staff are excellent, helpful and very well informed. The modest entry fee includes an underground visit to the mine where...More
