About
Rinjani Dawn Adventures is an adventure tour and trekking company based in Senaru, Lombok. We offer various packages for climbing Mt Rinjani (3726m), as well as day-trips to some beautiful locations. Founded in 2014, but drawing on many years local and worldwide mountaineering experience, the company aspires to be the most environmentally and socially conscious operator in the region. Following recent earthquakes Mt Rinjani is currently closed. However, it is still possible to visit some amazing locations with us (and safe to do so!). We are opening a trek on Pergasingan Hill near Sembalun, as well as expanding our Senaru Panorama walk to include a night camping in a "jungle garden" where you will learn about growing coffee, cacao, avocado and much more. If you're interested, please contact us through our website or email. The amazing mountain guides in Senaru depend on tourism for their livelihood, and many have lost their homes. We welcome you to an authentic experience of Lombok.

Did the 3D/2N night trek leaving from Sembalun and returning to Senaru, and it was the experience of a lifetime. The trip coordinator, Mr. Aef, was super communicative and made organizing the trip about a week in advance very easy. He was responsive by email and via Whatsapp and coordinated transport to and from my accommodations in Senggigi. I have to take my hat off to our amazing trail guide, Hero, and the crew of awesome porters who carry all the food and camping gear and prepared delicious meals for breakfast lunch and dinner. The food is good. As someone used to backpackers pantry and freeze dried meals on trail, I felt like a buffet at the Hilton with these guys. And again Hero was a star. A great guy, fun to hike with, very knowledgeable and kind as well as calm and collected.
BUT i have to give the disclaimer that this is a H.A.R.D hike and I honestly would not recommend this trip to someone out of shape or inexperienced hiking steep or uneven terrain. And for anyone experienced hiking but not used to intense multi-day trips, I would say bring your pain killers and whatever joint braces you need because this will leave your legs burning. If you're at all in doubt, put in some training hikes before hand or hit the gym to pep up your cardio and strengthen your legs.
D1 starts around 1100m and finishes just above 2600m with a roughly 1500m or 5000ft elevation gain on the first day. You bed down early, get some rest before waking up at 2am for the early (and very cold--bring layers, gloves, beanie) ascent to the summit, gaining another 1100m (3600ft) to make the summit at 3726m (12,200 ft) for sunrise. Following sunrise, and the descent down to the summit base camp, making it back around 8/8:30 for breakfast, the itinerary was to then descend the roughly 600m (1900ft) to the crater lake before ascending back the same elevation to camp on the crater rim opposite the summit on the Senaru side of the volcano. Our guide took a look at the trail time we were making when we got to the lake and the shaking legs of some of our crew and gave us the option of exiting down out the lake drainage towards the village of Torean rather than ascending the opposite crater wall. We took the option for the descent, which was one of a kind and beautiful but also super challenging.
That said, if you're on the fence and think you can take the pain, the terrain and the views are jaw dropping and unlike anything I've seen in the Sierras or the Alps. The crater lake is stunning and feels like you've been transported from the tropics to a high alpine lake. The hot springs are coated in bright yellow sulfur reducing algae, and the clouds that roll up the mountain side wrap the scenery in ever changing frames and lights. The descent into the rainforest on the Senaru side is an incredible change from verdant savanna grassland of the higher elevation to thick rainforest with soaring trees and the rare and shy black monkeys. The summit itself affords a 360 view of the entire island of Lombok, as well as Mount Agung on Bali to the west and Sumbawa to the east. In other words, the hike is amazing.
Would I do it again, yes! In a heartbeat. But I would go for the 4D/3N option to be able to spend a night at the crater lake and to break up the distance on Day 2 of the 3D/2N itinerary.

We did the 4 days 3 nights Rinjani Summit trek. (Highly recommend spending 3 nights, as you will have a much more relaxed time and get to camp out at the lake). Because; the summit is not an easy ride! It's a really tough hike.
At the start of the trek they make sure you're well equipped. Do you miss anything? , they can borrow it to you without cost. We didn't have gloves and beanies, and boy did we need them! So very happy they provided us with everything we needed, as we also heard that some operators don't do this.
During the trek there were plenty of snacks :) which was really nice. Also enough water and decent sized meals and plenty of fruit. And dont forget the hot drinks! We had a lot of wind so cold nights and the ginger and lemon tea really was a treat everytime.
Overall we had a great time and felt really taken care of during our whole trek, which was a great feeling, as it can get tough sometimes.

We did the I love Lombok Tour and it was great.
We got welcomed by Aef and team very warmly.
Everything was very well organized!
The tents are very good quality as when it gets windy they can stand it compared to the other tents which have a little window so you don't have to get out to watch sunrise at Mt. Rinjani but I mean for the full experience you anyways want to get out and and see it in full and not just from the tent ;)
Can only recommend it!!

Beautiful experience and must-do when in Lombok! The trek is very challenging but incredibly rewarding. The RDA team is very professional, sharing a lot of information up front, working with very experienced, good English speaking and very friendly guides & porters. They take good care of the hikers, of the porters, as well as of the mountain! They never leave trash behind, and even take trash left by other organizations with them. The food they prepare is impressive :) 100% recommend this organization to ensure a comfortable, trustworthy hiking experience!!

Had an amazing experience with Rinjani Dawn Adventures. We did the 3D2N trip, the guide was amazing always made us feel safe, and the porters were brilliant, we had so much food never went hungry, our guide always had extra snacks and drinks if we needed. The tents were spacious, had little mattresses and warm sleeping bags. Would definitely recommend. We wasn’t expecting the hike itself to be so much climbing up and down and scary, but whenever we was scared or unsure of the next step the guide would help us to stay safe.

Trekking to the summit with Rinjani Dawn was excellent. Our guide Nas was super easy going and nice and cooked fantastic meals with our great porters Sap and Sukana!

An absolutely amazing experience with Rinjani Dawn Adventures. My friends and i were deciding between booking a 2d1n treking tour of either Rinjani or Pergasingan Hill and decided to email RDA for recommendations. We liased with sales manager Aef who took the time to explain and share details about the two different treks. He was always quick to respond to our questions and was very understanding and patient with all our questions.
We decided to go for the 2d1n summit trek and do not regret our decision! The entire experience was amazing. The company is able to loan trekking equipment such as trekking poles, jackets, pants and head torches to the trekkers so we didnt not need to pack that much. The guide was very attentive to the group and the portering that supported us for the trip was amazing. We were fed really hearty and delicious meals! Mad respect to the staff that do this on a regular basis! The view on the way up was breath taking! We were very lucky that the weather was good!
Highly recommend planning your trek with RDA!

Just completed the 3 day 2 night Mount Rinjani trek and it was the most challenging but rewarding experience!! I’m so glad I chose to do the trek with Rinjani Dawn Adventures. From the beginning Aef was helpful answering all our questions and making sure we were prepared for our trek. Adi, our amazing guide, always made sure we were hydrated and fuelled, encouraging us to keep going when we weren’t sure if we could anymore!! Our porters were incredible, always having our camp set up when we arrived and the food was phenomenal! I never went hungry over those three days. Highly recommend this experience and choosing Rinjani Dawn!

One of the greatest but also one of the most challenging 3 days of my life...Climbing the Mount Rinjani in Indonesia with Rinjani Dawn adventures. But definitely worth the effort and sweat, the views are simply breathtaking and the experience itself unforgettable. Wonderful guide, sunsets and sunrises at the mountains and above the clouds, camping on the crater rims, relaxing in hot springs, wonderful porters who prepare you the food and drinks and tents, and carry all that stuff themselves. And not just basic food, but best food I have had in Indonesia, with even better views. Curry with chicken, banana pancakes, and even pop corn, you name it. Great environmentally friendly tour company.

Hi, my friend and I would like to book a tour. We have two questions: 1. Is it possible to cancel the trip without any extra costs? 2. How many days should we book in advance?

Hi Sophie,
When you book a trek we invoice you for a 20% deposit. This is non-refundable, but is transferrable to another date or tour, should you cancel more than a day before the trek is due to depart. The main reason we do this is because we've had no-shows in the past that we have arranged transport for, and we have to pay our drivers and people regardless. We also buy fresh food the day before the trek, which goes to waste if people cancel last minute.
It's best to book at least 5 days in advance of a trek, as the national park is limiting numbers on the mountain using an online ticketing system. The cost of the entrance fee is now 150,000 IDR per person per day, which is covered in the price of the trek. To avoid disappointment it's advisable to book in advance, but if you want to make a last minute decision please just contact us through our website or WhatsApp number (it's easier for us to communicate details via email, however).

Can I join a group or do I need to book together with other people?

Hi Andre. we need a minimum of 2 people to run a trek. if you inquire via our online booking system, we'll see if there is a group leaving on the dates specified. if not, we'll advise as to alternate dates / packages. So basically you can join a group if there is one, but we can't run treks for 1 person- 2 is the minimum. most of our groups are 4-10 people, but we often also run with 2.

Hi there. Unfortunately the mountain is closed from January to April as it is the rainy season, and the National Park authority restricts access. At the moment the booking calendar on our website does not reflect this (i.e., it still allows you to make an enquiry for these months), which can lead to confusion.
Trekking on Mt Rinjani officially opens on 1st April. We will post updates on our website if for any reason the government changes this policy.
