We had to visit Cape St Mary’s Ecological Reserve this September, since it was my strongest memory from a visit to Newfoundland 10 years ago. And it didn’t disappoint. It’s still utterly astonishing to sit a stone’s throw from a sea stack covered with some...More

The highlight of our trip to Newfoundland. 30 metres away from 20000 gannets nesting on 450ft cliffs. How good is that?!!!

This is a birder's paradise. A little out of the way, but worth the drive. We saw more Gannetts at Cape Saint Mary's than we've ever seen before in our lives. If you like to observe birds or take pictures of birds, this place is...More

During out recent trip to Newfoundland we visited Cape St. Mary's. At the Southwest tip of the Avalon Peninsula it sits right on the edge of the Atlantic. We had heard that there were lots of Northern Gannets and other water foul to be seen....More

Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve is a mystical and magical place, particularly on a foggy day. The tens of thousands of birds nested on the cliffs is amazing, as is the constant wave of birds flying about. The height of the cliffs, the splashing of...More

Truly a place that must be seen whether your a birder or just an animal lover. It's just a short hike to an almost mythical place. (NB: not suitable for families with very young children.)

This place is amazing, even though it is usually shrouded in fog, ,the sea stacks are right there so there is no problem seeing the thousands of nesting Northern Gannets. What a sight! It's about a 20 min. walk (best to wear hiking boots) from...More

Spent almost an hour by Bird Rock. There is no way to explain what it is like there to truly give it justice. Gannets circling all around you trying to find an open spot to land on the pillar of rock where they nest. Sometimes...More

We were so lucky to have a beautiful sunny day to explore Cape St.Mary’s Ecological Reserve. The birds were astounding, the noise loud, and the smell, well you have to experience it in person because words can’t do it justice 😂. Highly recommend that anyone...More

Let start off by saying that I am not particularly into birding or bird watching, but this sure is a sight! I definitely recommend visiting the information centre before accessing the viewing site as there you will be informed on what birds you can expect...More

The 92 is better, but the 100 is fine. I suggest going down one way and back the other so you see different things.
