Learning With experienced silver Smithers
Aug. 2021 • Solo
I spent 3 days at the rainforest gems learning silversmithing with Aura and Lawrence and had a wonderful time! They were very thorough with their teachings and explanations of tools and skills in silversmithing. They were both wonderful hosts and incredibly warm inviting me into their home for lunch and tea everyday. A booklet was included in the package that gives great detailed information on where I can purchase tools for how much and where they are coming from, an incredibly valuable tool for me on my silver smithing journey. Highly recommend this experience and thank them for their hospitality.

Fantastic experience
Nov. 2019
I have just spent the weekend completing module 1&2 learning to Silversmith and setting jewellery with Aura and Laurence from Rainforest Gems.
I am very pleased with the level of skills and knowledge that was given to me over the 3 days by such dedicated and wonderful people. This training has given me the confidence and understanding to further develop my skills working with silver and gold creating and designing jewellery.
I recommend that you visit Rainforest Gems on the Atherton Tablelands in Tolga where you can purchase beautifully crafted opal settings, gold and silver jewellery to add to your collection or attend the training courses on offer.
Thank you Aura and Laurence for this most rewarding experience.
Best wishes
Mick

Tripped over a gem

My American Visitor and I were on a leisurely loop day tour from Cairns when we happened upon the little hamlet of Tolga and this fabulous little gallery.
Easy access. Great customer service. Beautiful, beautiful lovingly handcrafted pieces by artisans who are passionate about their craft. And while their is absolutely no pressure to purchase, we came away with a pelican and great memories of a beautiful day out on the Cape and Tablelands. Definitely worth stopping in, even if it's just for a sticky-beak. You'll love the ambience. Enjoy

Really beautiful jewelry and some super amazing art work to see too. Aura and Laurence were very helpful in guiding me towards the right type of purchase I needed for gifts. I felt like I was really being taken care of by two incredibly passionate artisans. Its a must see stop if you are in the Athelton tablelands or Cairns.

An Excellent Jewellery Course.

I attended a weekend jewellery course at Rainforest Gems recently. It was fabulous. I learn exactly what I needed to start making my own jewellery, and enjoyed every minute. In the two days I went from having no experience at all, to walking away feeling confident and ready to start constructing my own designs. I enjoyed the weekend so much that I plan on going back to learn more. Wonderful teaching, a wonderful experience, and worth every cent.

The whole experience was a pleasure.(Who does not enjoy hunting for a birthday present!)
The shop is modern, open and uncluttered while displaying some local artists work for sale as well as their own beautiful jewellery.
Laurence was friendly, welcoming and interesting. He was happy to educate us about the local opals and warn us of the pitfalls us holidaymakers can fall into when buying !
He was obviously proud of his wife's jewelry and with good cause.
To be able to watch the jeweller at work was comforting too, and then to chat about local trees, seeds and rocks was delightful.
I finally chose a locally mined boulder opal which sparkled in the sun so much it had to come home to NZ with us.
Definitely worth the visit. Recommend leaving at least an hour to drool over all the beautiful pieces and have time to chatter too!

The stones secret... this is the place to learn it.
Apr. 2017 • Family
After visiting another ''gem-shop'' I was quite sceptical to enter another one. I am so pleased I did. A beautifull store with all Australian stones and diversity! An owner who loves his work and shows beautifull handkraft.

He took all the time to explain the essence and secrets of the stone. We learned so much and added another great experience to our trip. As stated on a sigh in the shop .. please ask everything we donot bite.

This a great opportunity for the kids to learn and Laurence is happy to explain how a stone is treated.
