This is a wonderfully tranquil, spiritual place with the most amazing frescoes amongst incredible buildings, reached from Stresa across Lake Maggiore [which takes some 15 minutes]. The church is very interesting, as are the additional buildings, as well as the wine and olive press which...More

The Eremo is in a magnificent and peaceful location on the lake. Not everything is accessible but it still worth a visit!

Eremo di Santa Caterina del Sasso can be reached through the lake - on a boat or by car. We got to the monastery on our way along the Lago Maggiore lakeside, and it was one of the best side trips. Build on the cliff,...More

Terrific setting, though the nicest views of the Eremo are probably from the water (I am not even sure that is possible without a private boat; we drove there). Nice frescoes but not very many, this is quite a small place. Overall, adding in the...More

Old monastery across the lake from Stresa. Can be reached by boat from early spring to beginning of October, then by car. A long staircase gets you to the church, or a 1€/person elevator for the less athletic.

This is best seen as part of Lake Tour via boat. It is utterly amazing the way this monastery just seems to be an integral part of the cliff itself. It was founded in the 12th century and along with Borromeo Islands are must sees...More

The architecture and engineering are feats of human and supernatural strength. The views of the lake are stunning, and the Spirit is palpable.

Go first thing in the morning to avoid the crowds, this intimate spiritual place is best viewed in relative solitude. A 15 minute ferry ride across Lake Maggiore from Stresa, the Hermitage clings to the side of a cliff, well above the water. There is...More

It's perfect, calm and relaxing spot by the lake. It also wasn't crowded with tourists, the view is splendid. The spot has also been made accessible for everyone via elevator, but if you feel brave you may take the stairs!

A peaceful and calm monastery anchored into the cliff. It's very small and if you are not very interested in religious tourism this might be a bit boring, or only worth a short stop. However be careful about the ferry schedule as you might have...More

Hii Everybody.. I am new in Italy.. And feeling excited about seeing the chapel of "Santa Caterina del Sasso Ballaro". Can anyone help me in planning trip to the amazing place. So far I manage to understand the railway station Stresa connected by Milano. My queries are: 1. From Stresa where do I get boat/ship to Santa the church? 2. How much the ship would be charging for single person? 3. Is the ship/boats are frequent or have be wait for long hours to get one ferry? 4. What's the entry fee for the chapel? I really really need to know the answers. Can somebody please answer my queries
