We went for a hike in at the Tswaing Meteorite Crater. We were attacked and if it wasn't for a tourist car passing by a few seconds after the two thugs started their attack it probably would have been very serious. Their intent was to inflict maximum injuries and rob whatever they could get. Our concern is that the manager... More

My mother and father of 58 and 62 respectively were viciously attacked by two men while on a Sunday hike after church. The 2 men charged them out of nowhere and immediately started swinging with a massive metal blade. Fortunately my father was able to defend himself and my mother who was screaming her lungs out and ran to the... More

What an interesting hike! We were 12 adults enjoying this moderate hiking trail that was clearly marked. Security guards were seen everywhere. I've seen reviews of people that were robbed at knivepoint. But security was taken seriously and I think the best is to hike in big groups. We didn't come across any useless elements along the road.

I read about security concerns on Tripadvisor and can confirm there was nothing to be alarmed about today. The nature reserve has organized guards throughout the route; 2 guards at the gate, a friendly receptionist at the gate, a guard at the starting point watching the cars, a guard 1 kms from the start, 2 guards around 2 kms at... I'm glad to say that the staff are taking security much more seriously. We always do the hike with a guide - it's just far more interesting. But phone ahead to book one. Crime is a reality so close to Soshanguve, but security people shadowed the area while we walked. We also met police visiting the area. The people who... More

I am sad to say that this place which I believe has significant tourism and education potential has been neglected to the point where even visitors are no longer safe. My family with three small children was robbed a very short distance from the parking area gate in view of the guard at the parking area on our return hike... More

Went for a hike recently with three other people. On our way back to the parking lot two men with large knives ambushed us. Thankfully no one was hurt, but the men were very aggressive and the incident could easily have ended much, much worse. They took our phones, cameras, wallets. Reported the incident to management. They apologized and said... More

This is an amazing walk around a beautiful crater, easy, fun and the trail is well sign-posted -- it would and should be a 5-star review. Unfortunately our group (2 men & 2 women) was mugged by two men armed with panga & bowie knives, in the last 1km of the walk (just after signpost 20). They were walking the... More

It's a good walk, not a strenuous hike, I went on a cloudy day, which was excellent, so not too hot, take water with you and sun hat. Good views and peaceful, well marked and if you follow the signs you wont get lost. managed to see some monkeys and a herd of Zebra as a bonus
