We had seen glowing reviews, and fantastic photos for this walk. The massive entry way at the start of the hike would lead one to expect a well maintained, popular trail. The road up to the site is an experience of its own! Unfortunately we...More

This is an amazing part of history. I enjoyed hiking through the 52 tunnels with my friends. This was the first mountain I have ever been up. If you are doing it for the first time make sure you bring water and little snacks and...More

It's quite a way off the tourist circuit but a fun walk with a difference. You can walk and explore as many of the tunnels as you like (we got to the 16th one). You can drive the car right to the start of the...More

The Strada delle 52 Gallerie (Road of 52 Tunnels) is a military mule road built during World War I by the Italian Army and civilian workers. The road with 52 tunnels was built in 1916-17 and now is a favorite hiking route--no bikes allowed. We...More

A must do if you live in Vicenza, Venice, or throughout the Veneto region. At nearly 100 years old, the sheer scale of this trail and the tunnels built will amaze you. Definitely need to start early and be moving by 9/930 and check the...More

If you are in the Venice, Verona, Vicenza area and need an "outdoor" experience, this is it! The hike is fairly strenuous but the views, the tunnels, the history, make it so worth the effort. We used our Iphone for directions and it worked perfect...More

Took a great hike on this historic trail. Amazing work of engineering to carve these caves, especially #19 that winds on top of itself like a corkscrew. Hike is great and takes between 2-3 hours. Great scenic overlooks of the Dolomites all throughout he walk....More

I don't hike much but this was a tiring climb. Through the tunnels a torch is required because the tunnel system was planned for mules to carry munitions to the top. Yes it can be slippery but remain focused and look back at how far...More

Whilst driving to the hike it was raining very heavily - we considered turning back but very glad we didn't. We parked in the carpark at the start of the hike (€6 in coins needed for the machine). The majority of the hike up was...More

Planning to hike the 52 in mid-September. Is driving by auto (rental or taxi) the only way to get to the trailhead? Currently we're planning to rent a car in Verona and spend 2 nights in Rovereto. Any other advice? Is San Colombiano worth as short visit? The Old Ponale Bike Path? Mt. Baldo? Thanks.

Not sure of any other options for getting to the trail head. Leave early to avoid cars coming back from the trail. Road is very narrow. The hike is spectacular and well worth the effort. We didn't do any of the other things... More

We will drive from Rovereto. Where does one park near the entrance/start of the trail? (It is unclear on most maps and the Strada website is only in Italian). Grazie.

Drive to Passov Xomo. You will see a small road heading uo and to the left. It almost looks like a footpath. Very narrow. That is the road to the 52 Gallerie. Follow it all the way until you see the large 52 Gallerie sign... More
