About
The Australian Motorlife Museum has a unique position in the Illawarra tourism arena and has a national reputation within the heritage motoring community. We are one of the largest museums of its kind in Australia. The current collection comprises thousands of items with over 4,000 sq. meters of display area. The collection includes vehicles from the early 1900’s through to the 1960’s. Motorcycles, trucks, a Penny Farthing bicycle and others, a 1924 Fire engine complete with brass helmets, an FJ Holden with a Caravan, typewriters, gramophones, picnic gear, irons, signs galore, advertising material, NRMA and Wayne Gardner dedicated historical displays. Early petrol pumps are a feature. Even from this brief overview it is obvious that The Australian Motorlife Museum has a great deal to interest everyone from the casual observer to the motoring enthusiast, from the youngest to the oldest visitor. It is echoed throughout a visit comments like ‘I learnt to type on one of these’.

Exceeded our expectations
Jun. 2021
Amazing experience that exceeded our expectations. Kids were equally as enthusiastic as the adults which was largely largely thanks to the volunteers who were very informative as well as welcoming. There is a lot of other great artifacts from the early 1900's that are well worth viewing as well the impressive collection of cars and motorcycles.
Highly recommend

A Remarkable HIDDEN Treasure! Shame on the NRMA! More Signs to this Wonderful Collection! PLEASE!
Nov. 2020
This must be, the best, best-kept-secret in Australian automotive history! We invaded a-top fifteen, 1941 vintage-styled Royal Enfield Motorcycles and not a single one of our motoring pals and peers (vintage themselves!) had EVER heard of this fabulous display! SHAME on the NRMA, as they sponsor this site and the ONLY signage to the magnificent museum is at the front gate?...by that time, we'd already arrived... where are the signs to this too-well-hidden-treasure? The local Visitors & Convention Center should be shouting from the roof-tops of this local jewel! The collection is wonderfully varied, and the entire team is crafted of very friendly volunteers! There is, something for everybody here! Don't take my word for it... Go There! My hat is off to 'Westie' and Surfside Motorcycles in the Northern Beaches who led us to this otherwise-missed, 'hidden treasure'!

Visiting from the UK we went with family. Not sure what to expect but very pleasantly surprised. A fantastic collection of, cars and motorbikes with some pretty rare exhibits. A wide range of other things to see also. Very well presented and laid out with very helpful volunteer staff. We couldn’t fault it it provided a great afternoon out and very good value for money.

Interesting

The museum is very well presented with a lot of facinating vehicles on display. We had a part guided tour by one of the volunteers who staff the museum. He was very knowledgeable about the vehicles that where on display. It was a very enjoyable few hours.

What an interesting museum
Mar. 2019 • Friends
Visited this museum with a group of friends to undertake a photography assignment. The volunteers were knowledgeable and friendly. As it was a quite time for visiting the museum we were given ample opportunities to get up close to get some photographs that many may not due to the helpfulness of the volunteer who "adopted our group". After we had had our fill of taking photographs we were able to round the visit off by partaking at the cafe

Hidden gem

If you are into old cars beautifully restored and knowledgeable volunteers who can answer all your questions then this is the place for you. They also have an amazing collection of other older items like typewriters, telephones, street signs, tools, irons and much more. Also a nice display of Wayne Gardner's bikes, helmets, trophies etc. Well set out and worth a visit.
