Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This place is located within Grants Picnic Ground. My wife and I visited this area to go hiking, not to eat or drink. I parked my car and we went on the Margaret Lester Forest Walk, which is a very easy 500 metres walk.

After we completed that walk, we went to do the Hardy Gully Nature Walk, which is 700 metres. After we completed that, we walked across the road to do the Clematis Track.

We had a short stop here on our shore excursion from our cruise ship. There are restrooms which is part of the draw, of course. It's beautifully situated amongst the eucalyptus trees which are home to numerous birds off all sorts. There's a small gift shop and sweet shop plus many picnic spaces.

...into tourist money extraction factory. Obviously, overpriced café was not enough, so 4 bucks a piece for a bird feeding entertainment? Why not 60 just to watch? and 90 if you want to get a bit closer? Like they did to penguin watch on Philip Island?
Well, I guess it was inevitable. When Ford and Holden closes the car production, the enterprising spirit finds another space to dwell.
I am rather sad though that it used to be our space free to roam, have little fun with your children etc, and now it is some faceless government/business entity that rules it all.

Ah, you know. It's Grants. It's been an institution for years, and the convoluted and expensive system they've set up for feeding birds (buy a token, feed birds in a very small area, only a certain amount of seed released per day) is better than the chaos that reigned previously, but it also seems to have taken its toll on the price of food in the cafe/restaurant. Bring back the pie and sausage rolls from the days of yore.

I wonder what deal there is between the café and the ridiculous number of huge tour buses that rock up here for tourists to have their 20 minutes of selfies with a cockatoo? The poor unsuspecting tourists could simply drive 5 minutes up Sherbrooke road to any number of other picnic grounds and have their own picnic with cockies and rosellas. Instead they are force fed to fatten up wild birds who no doubt live only at this tourist trap all their lives. A classic case of $$$ winning over common sense and nature.

Went with some friends as we had never been there and thought it would be a wonderful experience. It was the worst time ever. The woman running the bird feeding was less than helpful and mentioned that there could be some light scratching but any we got would disappear within an hour. I was swarmed and mauled, blood dripping down my arms (and my scratches have yet to fade nearly a week later). There was only one person working and NO antibacterial wipes as the dispenser was out of order. Luckily I packed hand sanitiser and wet wipes or who knows what infection we would have gotten from the claws. My advice is if you have to go wear long sleeves (even in 40 degree weather) and NEVER take children anywhere near those birds.

I visited this place again, after maybe 3 years of absence.
My only reason to go there was always the birds feeding and this is what I am writing this review for.
Since my last visit there, they have tried to organize the bird feeding area in a better way (or so they thought) and they built an enclosure whose area is obviously much smaller than the original feeding area, which was huge.
That makes the coockatoos rule over the entire feeding area and the poor rosellas and king parrots are too scared to get too close to the food.
I'm not whingeing about the price they ask for a tray of seeds which jumped from 1 dollar a bag of seeds a couple of years ago, to 4 dollars now but I thought that is worth to be mentioned.

Friend from overseas quite enjoyed seeing the birds here- mostly cockatoos and a few corellas. At the end of the picnic area there were other birds- crimson lorikeets, kookaburras, king parrots, magpies.... didn't see any galahs on this visit. The longer walk behind the picnic area also had many lyrebirds fossicking in the ground.
There was a young man (possibly with a disability) refusing entry to the bird feeding area without buying seed and paying $4... surely you can just enter and not feed the birds....alas, stand around the fence for the same thing. Was disappointing that the other birds are no longer in feeding area (as in the past) as the cocky's have taken over.
Gift shop has nice things. Cafe...average. Public toilets- filthy! Walks and hikes were great but not well signed- we actually got lost and did about 8km instead of 2.5 due to following misleading signs...signs should include distances not just arrows pointing both ways!!

Cafe staff are focused on serving large groups who arrive in Buses. They were not interested in assisting us, other than "We can make Take Away coffee".
Table's are set up for large groups who arrive in Buses.
You have to enter/exit via the souvenir shop.
