About
The South Australian Aviation Museum started in 1984 as the South Australian Aviation & Warbirds Restoration Group. In 1995, the name was changed to the South Australian Aviation Museum. Our focus is to collect, record and display the history of civil and military aviation in South Australia. SAAM volunteers have rescued and restored many notable (historic) aircraft, and are currently working on an Avro Anson, a Fairey Battle and our latest aquisition, a Victa Airtourer. We have 27 aircraft on display under cover in our hangars as well as themed displays including a display of Woomera Test Rockets.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A 'must do', whether you are an aviation enthusiast or not!
A fantastic facility which houses many historic aircraft, aviation memorabilia, articles and interactive displays.
Unlike many other museums, this musesum houses aircraft which can be accessed by visitors, which is included in the entry price.
See the website for up to date pricing (concessions available).

It was hard to comprehend the range of aircraft and engines on display. All had a local connection with government items especially featured. FA18 and F111 were a feature, but also jets going back to the 1950s and even biplanes. A special discount deal is available for attending multiple museums in the area. You can go an sit on the c-47 and Caribou to get a feel of the military life.

We had been to the Maritime and railway museums at Port Adelaide but hadn't seen the Aviation museum. It's tucked away off Lipson Street and is well worth the visit. We were given some information at the desk about what is in the museum and armed with our site map we were off to hanger number one. It's a fascinating place where you can go into some of the aircraft, foe an extra fee you can even have guided access to some of the aircraft cockpits. After hanger 1 we were directed through to the 2nd hanger. More outstanding aircraft again several you can climb into. This is a hidden gem and a great asset for SA. Our favourite just had to be the F111 swing wing bomber, it is huge. The volunteer staff were very knowledgeable and very helpful in answering questions about the aircraft and future expansion plans for the museum. Will have to do a return visit down the track.

My wife and I were in the area for a while and decided to take in this museum. As a retired pilot I'm happy to be married to a woman who likes airplanes! Anyway, we found this to be an awesome stop. The staff was very helpful, complete with a detailed pre-briefing on how to get around the museum, what to see and expect, etc. There are a number of aircraft you can get into and the upper balcony makes it easy to see everything in the main hangar. The other hangar also has a large variety of aircraft. The museum has a number of displays and artifacts, including a propeller blade from the aircraft carrying Admiral Yamamoto when it was shot down in WWII. There is a nice display and description of local or regional aviation pioneers and their stories along with related artifacts. If you are an aviation buff or even have the mildest interest this is a must do!

I have lived locally for many years and never knew the place existed until recently. I visited yesterday and was amazed by the collection they have there. To have the collection from the Australian Airforce over many years and Army to make a great collection. The Spitfire is amazing. For plane buffs this is a great place to visit. Adults are $10 each.

Although it took us a while to find the museum, it was worth the effort. The so hangars are full of aircraft memorabilia as well as actual aircraft. It was so nice to see planes being preserved and not overly restored. A perfect couple of hours.

A must see if you are an aviation nut (like myself) or even if you're not (like my wife). . My wife was pleasantly surprised with all the exhibits and had a great time. Well worth the $10 entry fee and would have loved to have spent more time there.Unfortunately we had to get to the airport to fly home.

An amazing aviation museum and a credit to the volunteers who keep it going. A place to take your time while wandering around, as you will keep finding things to look at. Not just aircraft large and small, but lots of smaller exhibitions to look at and pour over. Very glad we took the time to visit.
