We found the grave and headstone of my husbands grand uncle who was killed after the surrender. He was a prisoner of war of the Japanese. The Cemetery wasn't kept as immaculate as the ones in Europe, but well kept by the locals.

We have mixed feelings visiting this WWII Memorial. First, we felt sorry for the departed; second, a sense of pride for their selfless sacrifices; then, a sense of serenity & calmness knowing that they are finally laid to rest peacefully in this beautiful memorial park. It was said that the bodies of the personnels were all shipped in from Sabah, some with the military tags hanging around the necks. Of 3,908 of them, 2,156 were unidentified. My grandfather was a Chinese leader held captive and was killed by the Japanese soldiers during WWII, therefore I always make it a priority to visit WWII memorials to remember and honor my grandfather and the war heroes. Labuan WWII Memorial is Malaysia’s largest war cemetery, it is well taken care of and you can see many beautiful flowers planted next to the white headstones. We took time to read the loving messages from the family members engraved on the grave metal plates. There were two gravestones with the photos of the deceased placed next to them by the recent visits of their family members. There is no entrance fee and the memorial is open to public everyday.

Located in the middle of nowhere and about 8 minutes drive from the city centre. You can get Grab to and from the park to the city. Free entry to the park. There are some small local cafes at the entrance of the park.

The World War II Memorial is definitely a must visit place when you step your foot in Labuan Island. It is a historical place and certainly a place to appreciate the scarifications that are done by all soldiers that were involved in the massive war. Most of the soldiers buried there were Australians and British, of course, there are others such as Punjab, locals, New Zealand and more. The lawn was beautifully kept with neat rows of plaques. The boddies were all shipped in from Sabah, some with the military tags hanging around the necks. Out of the 3,908, there are as much as 2,156 are unidentified. White stones are given to each soldier with their names, military positions and death ages engraved on the stones. On the first Sunday of November every year, a service to mark Remembrance Day is held here and is attended by locals and foreign visitors. Bring the whole of your family to visit this place is an open to their eyes. We should indeed cherish those who sacrificed their lives and who have passed on. Remember, peace among humanity is what counts.
It is easy to get to every corner of Labuan Island. You can either hail a taxi to reach your destination or to take the public bus services. The public bus goes around Labuan Island every single day. The fare offered is very reasonable. You can too, rent cars or bikes as a convenient transport to bring you around the island.

The resting place is so peaceful, very well maintained. It is so easy to find and beautiful surroundings. We took 2 friends from Melbourne to visit as one of our friend's uncle was involved in the second world war. He was the lucky one who returned to Australia. The place is very big wih hundreads of names but unfortunate some names are only known to God.
This is the second time I took Aussie friend there to show their respect to their relatives who fought during the Japinese invasion of south East Asia. During the visit I could not stop recalling what my mum told me about the horrible life when Japan took control of Borneo.. the horrible torture of humans. I could not believe how cruel the Japinese were.

Situated inside the Labuan War Cemetery, just along from the golf club, this memorial comprises a series of pillars on which are inscribed the name of the men is commemorates. At one end of the memorial there's a small cubby hole, in which you'll find a full list of those remember here, their names, dates of birth and where and with whom they served. There's also a brief history of the war in Borneo.
Despite a reasonably busy road, this is a quiet, reflective place maintained by the Commonwealth Graves Commission - there were gardeners at work while we were there.
Mini bus route number 1 comes here, but we rented a car to explore the island.

This is a peaceful and beautifully kept WWII memorial (graveyard) administered by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, located about a 5-10 min drive from the main Labuan Town. There are a significant number of graves of British, Australian and Indian soldiers who were killed whilst attempting to defend Labuan Island from the Japanese, or who died in POW camps. The fact that so many of the graves belong to "unknown soldiers" and the young age of those who were identified and who died so far from home is incredibly saddening.
The cemetery is immaculately kept by the Commenwealth War Graves Commission and thus respecting those who paid the ultimate price defending freedom from tyrrany.
Labuan has an amazing amount of WWII history, and like all the WWII locations on the island entrance to the memorial was free.

I last visited the World War II Memorial in Labuan ages ago. Recently during our one night stay in Labuan, a friend brought us there. It's so beautiful, very well kept and peaceful. If you happen to be in Labuan, do visit this war Memorial, which is only a few minutes drive from the town.
