The superb gardens at Ness on the Wirral Peninsular, overlooking the Dee Estuary were founded in 1898 by Arthur Kilpin Bulley; a Liverpool cotton merchant with a passion for gardens and plant collecting. Today the stunning 64 acre gardens have won a succession of awards including Large Attraction of the Year for Cheshire and Liverpool City Region and coveted RHS Gold Medal display garden at the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park. The Horsfall Rushby Visitor Centre provides a warm welcome to this Cheshire Garden of Distinction. Ness Botanische – display garden by TV presenter and garden designer Chris Beardshaw and Making Waves garden by award winning designer Pippa Probert. Our newly launched restaurant The Garden Kitchen serves quality locally sourced food along with the Garden Grub kiosk in the garden. An extensive events programme runs throughout the year.

Plenty of colour already abounding in these Botanical Gardens. The magnolias, some rising over 50ft, are just starting to bloom supported by crimson red camellias, various types of daffodil and the last of the snowdrops that crowd around the paths. Blossoms of different hues and scents are bursting from their buds. The feel of Spring is definitely here. Also had... More

We visited the gardens on a lovely spring day which couldn't have been nicer. Spring bulbs were in blossom as were many bushes and shrubs. The heathers in particular looked wonderful. We arrived late morning and had a slow walk around the main route marked by blue arrows before having lunch at the café in the visitor centre. The café... More

A wonderful stroll around a beautiful garden viewing the plants as they come life in the early spring. As with most gardens you need to view them in each season. The Mimosa is especially vibrant this year

We went today with friends, even though it's Winter and I can imagine it's a lot prettier in the other seasons there was still plenty to see. The kids loved being in the woods and running up and down the hills, nice paved walks for the pram as well. Small play area and plenty of benches and picnic space. Looking... More

Ness gardens is a beautiful place to visit. It has a variety of gardens to visit and for someone not really into gardening, even I could appreciate gardens and plants looking absolutely lovely. Kids enjoyed their time, wasn't much for them to do though as the activities had been cancelled. Nice cafe to. I would definitely return.

Thank you so much for lovely review of Ness Botanic Gardens. The gardens are looking fabulous at the moment, we are just waiting for the final Snowdrops to make their appearance. I am extremely sorry about the children's area, our tractors and equipment are currently being spruced up ready for the Spring. I do hope that you will return soon... More

Took the kids on to visit Ness again, (they wanted to go to the Blue Planet Aquarium). However they were won round by the Reindeer trail that was amusing and challenging enough for somewhat older children. We loved seeing the container garden which gave us ideas for our own garden. Otherwise there was still plenty to see in terms of... More
