Glebe House - a fascinating visit of the unexpected.
A fascinating tour of Derek Hill's house in Donegal, each room was full of his personal items together with artworks collected/given over the years, giving a real lived-in feeling to the place. This was helped by the excellent knowledgeable guide who brought the house and painter/collector to life. The well laid out garden down to the lake is also a pleasant stroll.

    A brilliant day out
We were on a break from our lectures and decided to go to Derek hills house for a look. Whilst there we were invited to join one of the tours on going. It was extremely informative and intriguing. There are so many hidden gems in the house and I’d definitely go back to learn more !! We had to leave early so only got a tour of the downstairs but we then went back the next day. They were extremely accommodating and allowed us to return and finish the rest of the tour. We had Genevieve and Kevin who were extremely informative. It was Genevieve first tour and she was amazing. We learned so much and had a bit of craic. 10/10 would recommend

    An exceptional house to visit
We had a fascinating visit to Glebe House and Gallery, with a splendid tour of the house led by Kevin who gave us a remarkable insight into Derek Hill's life and an encyclopedic background to hundreds of pictures and artifacts throughout the house. The additional exhibition of paintings by Carey Clarke was also really excellent. We enjoyed a walk through the grounds and gardens. This visit was the unexpected highlight of our holiday in Donegal.

Lovely place for a quiet couple of hours. The Coffee Shop home bakes were fantastic.
The Glebe Gallery and Gardens is a must for everyone. Jean and Gallery staff are so helpful and friendly. The Gardens are beautiful, the wild flower meadows, the bog garden and the New area in the Bog Garden is a fantastic addition. This place us so natural and fair play to the staff of Ryan, the gardener and Martin and Peter. A must to visit if one is on a visit to the Churchill area. There are free Garden Tours conducted by Ryan, the Gardener through the year.

    A must...
The highlight of my trip to Donegal, Glebe House is a national treasure. The collection is positively scintillating. Augustus John's "Calling of James and John" on its own would have made the visit worthwhile. I will definitely visit again. Well done to the OPW!

    Don't miss this hidden gem
This is a place we visit time and time again and it never fails to impress. This time, our tour guide, Kevin, was absolutely brilliant. He captured Derek Hill's gregarious, sensitive and generous personality in a surprisingly emotional visit. His knowledge of the artworks and treasures is fascinating and made for a delightful tour. This is such a magical and captivating place to visit that feeds your soul. Do not miss it when visiting Donegal.

A trip to the Gleneagles gallery.
We have visited the Glebe gallery a few times and we always enjoy the tour of the house. This year's tour was the best yet,the tour guide's knowledge of the artwork and house was excellent and we really enjoyed his humour. The cafe was very good and reasonably priced. The garden is worth a visit and the featured artist's work in the gallery made me laugh out loud (as I am sure is the intention ). The 6 people in our group would recommend a visit to the house and the many treasures inside.

    Excellent.
We highly recommend anyone remotely thinking of going here just go! The gallery is excellent but it's the house that has the wow factor. Our tour guide- Kevin- was absolutely excellent and it was him that made the tour. It was obvious from the start that he actually knew what he was talking about. He was very interesting and informative. The coffee house is also great.

Hidden treasure not to be missed
This house is a real treasure not to be missed. It is much more thatn a house it is an art gallery full of the most amazing collection of works by Derek Hill himself, Roderic O'Connor, Picasso, The Tory Island artists, Japanese master printmakers and many, many more. Our tour guide Kevin really brought the house to life with so many interesting stories about the history of the house, Derek Hill's life there and tales of the many interesting visitors who stayed here over the years. I couldn't believe the richness of the art collection, the decor and the beautiful way in which it is all put together. The gardens leading down to Garten lake are really beautiful too, a visit here is a real treat for the soul.

Glebe House and Gallery is well worth a visit and, indeed, is a place you could return to several times, because there is so much to see and take in. For me, it’s not so much about the art on the walls – although the paintings are of course impressive – but the stories behind the art, the previous owner (Derek Hill), the house itself and the visitors who stayed there. The art also isn’t just the paintings; it’s the wallpaper, the colours, the furniture, the personal objects and the way Derek Hill positioned all of these. (The house is pretty much as he left it in 1981.) Tour guide Kevin is excellent. A visit to the tearoom is a must too – the chocolate brownie is amazing, best I’ve ever tasted! Unfortunately, it rained on both occasions I’ve visited so I did not get a good look around the gardens, but from what I did see they are beautifully well-maintained and colourful.

Second time we have visited. An amazing gallery / house - very intimate. Impressed by the knowledgeable guide, Kevin who brought it all to life. The tour takes about 90 minutes, and needs to be booked in advance. A lovely setting - the gardens and grounds are worth a walk around.

Lovely place , surrounded by lovely garden
Near a lake
Car parking available and cafe which serves local cuisines - home made cakes deserts and food . We had the soup of the day (vegan) and gluten free cake … delightful :)

The service in Ireland is always better then elsewhere but this was too notch 😀

Lovely ladies

The museum had an art exhibition so lucky to have seen the works of Irish women ! Entrance was free

The lovely lady at the counter provided us with the information necessary

Also paid 5 euros for adults to visit the house of the artist Derek Hill, guided tour and Serena out tour guide was really friendly and answered all our questions :) thank you Serena

We walked to the lake there was a beautiful meadow buzzing with butterflies and quite a few Artists who were painting :)

It was great to see the inside of Derek Hills house and the collection of paintings among which there was several Picasso plates … it’s must see and his wisdom , friendships and talents vary and in abundance
Joyful tour

Excellent guided tour around the house. Our guide Kevin was very knowledgeable about every aspect of the house & Derek Hill, those who visited him there, & particularly about the many paintings & artefacts. Would highly recommend a visit to the Glebe. The gardens are beautiful & a trip to the cafe is also to be recommended.

we really loved the tour of Glebe House done by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable tour guide. The decor and the artworks were all fabulous, ranging from Renoit, Picasso and Renoir, through to lesser-known artists and Tory Island artists that he had talent spotted in brought on. lots to feast on here ( and in the tea rooms afterwards) Even the dog enjoyed a stroll in the gardens, although he was supposed to stay on the lead

Fascinating house and art collection. Enjoyed our tour with guide Selena who was very entertaining and knowledgeable! All staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Gardens were beautiful. Would recommend visiting Tory Island as well to see what a unique place it is and why it had such an impact on Derek Hill.
