Having grown up in the area, my friends and myself have frequented Carey's Castle quite a lot. There are great walks around here ranging from the short walk through the woods down to the castle, to hiking trails and cycle trails going over the Comeragh mountains. The castle itself is falling further into ruin at an increasing rate but it... More

.....I want it all to myself. I've been coming here all my life and I've never stopped getting excited when you descend down into the woods and this castle appears. With so much of it left, you get some sense for how these people lived. The square footage is probably not much bigger than your average McMansion. With electronic gate... More

While Carey's castle is on the small side as far as castles go it is a wonderful spot to visit with a lovely walk through the woods. There are a lot of little places to explore and no area is off limits.

Nice place for a walk through the forest, not too long before you get to the ruins. There is good bit of the castle preserved, you can even climb inside. Looks pretty cool if you're into old castle ruins.

At the end of a day's full of driving, we found ourselves in Clonmel and decided to check out Carey's Castle. We had read that this castle is unique in that it is located within a forest. Since we had seen so many other castles out in the middle of fields or along cliffs, we thought that a forest castle... More

Lovely looped walk, nice and easy for families. Great to bring the dog or have a picnic. It's a short walk, but you can explore off trail and near the stream. Lots of fun, kids love exploring the castle ruins.
