People describe it as rugged and undiscovered, and they are so right!!! About a 2 hour drive from the start of the Beara Peninsula down to the end, though of course you need to add in time for stops, it's a small enough Peninsula to...More

If you're up for a long drive (up to four hours) the beara way is a must. We drove through quaint villages and towns. The roads were very narrow and winding with breathtaking views on every turn. The highlights would be Dursey Island and the fabulous...More

Did a driving tour of the Beara peninsula in a day. Started in Kenmare and took to the narrow roads (boreens) to see the real Beara. We were rewarded with stunning coastal views and amazing properties dotted about. Kilcatherine point is a very isolated beauty...More

The walk up is steep and rocky during the early part but you are rewarded with outstanding views across Bantry Bay to the Sheep's Head peninsula and across to the Kerry mountains including the Paps and Mangerton. Well worth it !

Kees, the owner of the B&B that we stayed at in Bantry, recommended that we drive around the Ring of Beara (said that it was much better than the Ring of Kerry). Although we had considered doing this drive during our planning, we had decided...More

Narrow winding roads mean " pay attention" especially when not 100% comfortable driving on opposite side of road than what we are familiar with in America. But don't let that deter you. You will be rewarded with a step back in time. Small farms, lakes,...More

This was a good experience for us. Weather was not great but it made no difference nice to us as the weather added to our enjoyment. Not the easiest journey but this is Ireland at its natural best. Particular spots were Dursey island very rugged...More
