The outside of the castle is spectacular and has amazing views of the town. Inside the castle, it is too modern and loses the authenticy of the castle itself.

Very helpful man at desk. Very informative self guided tour with opportunities to dress up in costumes for photos. Especially interesting if you have a love for history. Your ticket gets you discounts at several other activities. Enjoyable afternoon.

Not the standard castle visitor's trip. This is more like a living history lesson than the castle visit, of,say, blarnry castle. Very much worth a trip. Quick warning. The roads around the city are totally disrupted and in many cases you can walk in a...More

I wouldn't describe this as a castle, really. Very little of it is left but it houses the museum which is very interesting. There is an entry fee of a few euros - special rates for those over a certain age - not sure about...More

Easily accessible even with a buggy. Our 6 year old daughter really enjoyed it & it definitely brought out her inquistive side, asking loads of questions. Worth visting & great to pass a little bit of time for young & old

I was very impressed with the quality of the presentation of the early history of Athlone and Iris, British wars. There is also a presentation of early 20th century citizens of Athlone. The castle itself is well restored and quite interesting.

We were charged 20 euro for 3 children and 2 adults. A family in Ireland is often inclusive of 2 adults and 3 children due to larger family sizes, and to be honest this is a reasonable price as the museum is interesting but... More
