Cosy and warm. Nice alert staff. Guinness very good. Enjoyed few here and highly recommend. Can get busy fairly quickly so don't be shy in sharing tables with others. Worth a visit.

I loved speaking to Sean about the history and reasons he made his whiskey- which is (spoiler alert!) the original way it was made in 900AD. Now that is fascinating !!!! The bar was quaint and happy and I loved sitting by the fireplace for...More

Had a few diferent occasions where an irish coffee was the order of the day so hit Seans up for a nice cozy old Irish pub feel. Nice barman. Loved the cozy snugs and the booze did the job.

Of course, if you are near Athlone, you have to stop at Ireland’s oldest bar, right? We thought so. We were glad we went because we can say we’ve done it, but it’s not really our cup of tea. The place was packed and we...More

Great little spot in the centre of Athlone with the biggest bear garden around. There is live music 7 nights a week (so the taxi man told us. Well worth a look

Amazing service and fabulous cocktails. Loved the ethnicity of the place especially the sawdust on the floor. It was deceptively big from what you could see from the high street. I had to leave with a t shirt after all it’s not often you visit...More

We popped into Ireland (and possibly Europe's) oldest pub for a pint after visiting Athlone Castle. It dates from 900AD! Sean's is deceptive in size, the main bar area is small, but there is an area in the back with an outside patio that could...More

Our road trip took us from Dublin to Galway and there was always only one place we'd call at en route - Athlone to visit Sean's Bar! What a fantastic, small, old pub. Despite being close to lunchtime, we were lucky to get a table...More

Went in on a random night out. Place was packed in the front so we took our drinks out the back which was much bigger and had a great cocktail bar. Band start playing eventually, good atmosphere about the place. Had different ages of customers....More

Hi Grainne, Thanks for your enquiry. On a Saturday night we do not hold reserve areas due to the size of the pub and the crowds that visit the pub on a Saturday night. We can hold a space up to around 6/7pm if that suited... More
