The ancient builders really had a knack for placing their greatest tombs. This one is set to overlook a bay with tide pools, where you can immediately picture people trying to eke a living from a rough but gorgeous landscape.

Nice spot to stop. Easy parking and a good chance to stretch ones legs. The Tomb is very interesting and is very impressive.

Well worth a visit! Very very interesting and well looked after. Parking nearby that’s free and short walk to the altar tomb. Wear walking shoes in case the ground is wet. Lovely views surrounding the tomb. Recommend to all

It was a rainy and foggy day however this place was deeply peaceful. As u walk along the rocks and cliffs its like a new place at every turn.

Next we came across Altar Wedge Tomb, a burial dolmen. This was unplanned for but interesting, with a great ocean view of Mizen Point. Stop here if you drive by.

Driving on the way to Mizen head we spotted the stop for Altar so we stopped there on the way back. It's a beautiful little spot where you can walk to the edge of the rocks and lookout over Toormore bay.
