We had very limited time, so only visited the History Centre, which is quite interesting. It would have been great to include a hike. Next time!

Found this centre on our first wet day in Ireland .Its a very smart multipurpose building which includes interesting and informative displays and a very good video of the area around Connemara and the personal story of local tenant farmer Dan O'Hara. The accompanying sound track is beautiful. We were especially pleased by the lovely warm and fridly greeting of... More

We found Martin (the main staff person, and driver of the tractor taking people up to the cottage) to be very informative, knowledgable and entertaining. His description of the conditions leading to mass emigration, and Ireland's political struggles was interesting. He sang a few Irish ballads to illustrate parts of the history, which the crowd enjoyed. I think it was... More

What a wonderfully fun and informative place!! Two floors just FULL of interseting facts, stories, pictures, photos and exibits!! We are planning to retire in Connemara, near Clifden, in about three years, and this History stop has provided us with so much background, on the peoples and happenings, to include several world wide events! Much of what we learned here,... More

I wouldn't describe this as a Connemara history centre, but more an overview with a focus on a local farmer. We enjoyed the stroll to the outside parts. But found the greeting confusing as the building is also a hotel. It also appears if your not staying in the hotel, there isn't more than soup of the day for visitors... More

The movie was informative but the ride up the side of the mountain and the visit to the cottage were enhanced by the tour guide's talk about the period in which Dan O'Hara and his family occupied the land. The talk about the bog and peat was most amazing.

The leaflet promised much. The reality was quite the opposite. The reception area was more a hotel than a heritage centre. There was no-one there anyway. We went into the shop behind, where it seemed several people were having an argument in a back room. No-one welcomed us or asked if they could help. There was no clue given about... More
