We didn't quite make sense of this site. Where the "historic" structures in the garden real or artificial? We were allowed to walk through the fields to see the Connemara ponies or not? And as we didn't have time to wait around for the start of the video about Dan O'Mara we didn't quite know what we were looking at... More

They take you with a tractor to watch the scenery . to see the old house of Dan O'hare, to see how they cut the turf, and above all they tell you about the history of the family, the farm and Clifden in a very entertaning way.

A love place steeped in history. We walked around the visitors center before going on a short walk following the yellow trail. It took us 30 minuets to do the loop. There is a lot of steep slopes up and down but the kids really enjoyed it. There is also a play area for kids which they loved. The coffee... More

Everything above this centre was good. Lovely cafe, clean toilets, excellent information centre. Great to see the Connemara ponies and to talk to the breeder. Great walk up Diamond Hill.

On a cool but pleasant day, we boarded the trailer tractor driven to the top of the mountain and saw the valley below. Martin explained peat cutting, sang related songs and spoke of the history of Connemara. Then we travelled by foot to Dan O'Hara's restored Homestead where he shared Dan's family history and showed us Dan's family accomodations. After... More

I can only say that the few bad reviews had to be because of a bad day (which happens to the beat of us). Because this is a wonderful experience - from the ride to the top of the mountain/foothills, to experiencing storytelling at its finest with Martin sharing the story of Dan O'Hara's family interspersed with song and the... This wasn't on our itinerary but sure glad we stopped. It was lunch and we needed a place to sit in the fresh air for a while. The people in the center were very nice and helpful. Intriging displays made for a good visit. Only took a sbort time which was just what we wanted.

This place is very thought provoking. You first watch a video about the West of Ireland and how the famine of the 1840's affected the area and then visit the cottage where Dan O'Hara lived with his family until he was evicted and making the cottage windows larger. He left for the US with his family of 7 and his... More
