We enjoyed a peasant stroll from lobster cottages across the river, which amounted to around a 3.5 mile round trip. The area around the fort is well kept and the views from the top around the fort are fabulous. There is a lovely sandy bay...More

I decided to go visit James Fort, not Charles Fort, because it looked less touristic. I'm glad I went. It was very nice. Not only the Fort but the view and the walk around. I find it disappointing that I couldn't get inside

The ruins of 17th century fort is opposite Charles Fort. Children including my son are happy to use it like a playground.

Great walk from the dock bar up through to the Fort and back down again to the dock bar. Can get muddy but typically an easy terrain and the Fort is worth seeing.

Really interesting, friendly staff and very informative. We enjoyed the hour or two we spent their despite howling winds and rain but then again it did add atmosphere
