Everyone needs a secret garden in their life and you’re invited to visit Wendy's, a public garden and much loved oasis in the heart of Sydney. Located a short walk over the Sydney Harbour Bridge, or stroll from Milsons Point and North Sydney train stations, the Secret Garden is a haven where you can explore meandering pathways discovering sculptures; enjoy a picnic basket or read a book at one of the tables beneath the garden’s canopy; or simply enjoy the nature and serenity of your beautiful surrounds. You may even stumble across a fairy. Created over 20 years by artist Wendy Whiteley, wife and muse of Australian artist Brett Whiteley, the Secret Garden is nestled behind Luna Park in one of Sydney's most spectacular suburbs, Lavender Bay. While its free and open seven days a week, there are steep inclines and a range of steps. Visitors with limited mobility may only be able to access the uppermost sections of the garden but we're sure you'll enjoy your visit.

Beautiful and quiet park (especially in the winter) with a great view of the harbour. It's a great place to watch the sunset or enjoy a mid-day picnic without too many people around.

I visited the Secret garden with my son-in-law and little grandson. Lots of paths to explore, whimsical little touches here and there if you look carefully, places to have your BYO picnic. Serenity in Sydney :-)

The visit had been on my bucket list and the effort to build a garden setting on waste land also highlighting old items -an old tricycle etc was significant. It is welcoming, old fashioned, unsophisticated and felt like Grandmas garden. The wonderful old houses around...More

Find the time to escape to this little corner of paradise tucked away in Milson's Point/Lavender Bay. It's not far to walk from Milson's Pt station. I visited on a weekday and it was so quiet and calming. Highly recommended.

I read about Wendy and her commitment to this garden she has created for the community. It is beautiful with native plants, trees, and sculptures. There is such a feeling of peace as you sit there and enjoy the views. Definitely worth the climb.

Only superlatives can describe this garden. What an enormous job to turn an overgrown slope behind the old railway lines to a throbbing delight. In this enchanted landscape, you almost expect the elves to emerge from the bushes, but instead of the hobbits, only a...More
