Luckily we didn't come to Bakewell to see this craft fair, we literally just followed the signs and popped in on our way home to our holiday site. Not sure why the pictures are of the bridge as this has no relevance however I have no images to put up as we only walked through. The stallholders were polite and friendly however there was literally about 15 small stalls in a little hall which looked like it was part of an old building. Similar to a fair held at a primary school. Pop in if you're already passing but I wouldn't travel to get there.…

This place has been going ages, it's quite close to the town centre and easy to find. Tends to be a mix of crafts some good some OK. Worth a visit.

I am sad to read some of the negative comments left about this little gem of Bakewell. I do feel compelled to correct some of the errors. The Bakewell Gift and Craft Fair is an independently organised and run business. It has no association with any other gift and craft fair which may be occasionally held in the town. Generally the fair is held every Saturday and Sunday in the Brigade Hall from 10.0-0am to 4.30pm. There are over twenty stalls selling high quality products the most of which are handmade by the stall holders themselves. There is to lesser extent some commercially made products, but none of these are "cheap imports". To suggest that the majority of the products sold are of poor quality is an insult to those hard working people who spend many hours creating their own specialty gifts and crafts. There are no café facilities in the Brigade Hall during the weekend periods, however, during Bank Holidays and school holidays the craft fair expands into the building next door which is known as the "Medway Centre" This gives the opportunity for many more crafters and traders to display and sell the own particular craft products. It is during these periods that there are café facilities in the Medway Centre. The café organisers provide an excellent service providing home cooked quality food and drinks throughout the days the fair is held in there. I'm sorry that some people felt that their visit didn't live up to their expectations, but there are times, sometimes during the week that the stall holders, many of whom are not professional traders cannot always be there all day, every day. I personally visit this gift and Craft fair many times throughout the year and do especially make a point of going there to buy quality hand made gifts, which is different from the run of the mill gifts available in many trinket and gift shops dotted around the local area. So may I suggest that when visiting the charming market town of Bakewell, people should make the effort and visit the craft fair and make up your own minds about the place. Well this was disappointing as there were relatively few crafts or products similar thereto on offer. There was some fudge but I spent my time looking through a stamp album and at some football prohrammes. It's more like a permanent indoor car boot sale than craft fair .... to me at least. Regretably we won't be tempted next time.…

The craft and gift fair is variable, mainly because there are often a significant number of gift stalls which are selling mainly cheep imported goods. Having said that there are also some very talented people making some lovely things. On bank holidays and over the summer there are more stalls as the brigade hall is also open. In the brigade hall there is also a small cafe. It's worth a visit but I personally am always disappointed when there are too many gift stalls or stalls aren't well balanced across the fair. …
